Oh thanks, I was just looking for my conversion chart0.7 UK is 62 US
LOL! And I'm beggin for them to be translated to US!! I just laughed seeing your avatar again, so excellent! I actually keep hoping for a ship to return to Earth and see all these little peeps get out that look just like me and say "com'on denise, it's time to go home"Could someone translate the numbers to UK ones please?
Thanks so much @RachoxI think your latest number converts to the U.K. equivalent as 10.07 mmols/L. I’ll tag in @shelley262 who has had a high total cholesterol reading not sure if it was the same as you though.
I found another book that he co-authored and I could afford that one so I got it, digitally, Lipid Lunacy: Diet delusions and what really causes heart disease is the name and I will be reading it. Thanks so much, DeniseHi. Have you read 'The Great Cholesterol Con' by Malcolm Kendrick? He's a UK GP. Puts things into perspective.
thanks @HSSS I'll be busy reading this stuff today as I can't just give up after coming so far with my T2 numbers. The Diet Doc site/video I was watching said you can try dropping your saturated fats, and dairy but I don't do a lot of dairy and I don't think any saturated fats so I'll be checking that out as well.Ok. I’m not sure on conversions but I’d say 1st breath. 2nd, total Cholesterol like a chocolate teapot. Look at the constituent parts as some are beneficial and some less so.
looking at your results there is a magnificent reduction in trigs and vldl both desirable. There’s also a beneficial increase in hdl.
Ldl is a mixed bag. There are some hyper responders to keto (see Dave Feldman) whose ldl rises. Also the calculations used for ldl are not reliable in low carb diets. Ldl is usually calculated not measured so can be affected by the assumptions made. Then you need to consider what particle size the ldl is. Small dense and potentially harmful or large and bouffant and potentially protective.
these calculators might help

And for resources and evidence this thread is sure to have it - but get a cuppa first as it’s HUGE (scan or search first for relevant terminology is my advice)

and this was posted on Youtube in 2016. That screams of "cover-up" to me. Why on Earth would doctors not want us to get well, hmm, there lies the question hey. I believe this man, along with others that are finally being heard today! Thanks again @FennMight be interesting
Hi @Ryhia, thank you so much for sharing, first time someone came close to my numbers!! Did you take meds to bring it down, or just diet? Every time my cholesterol has been tested, in my whole life, I don't think it's ever been below like upper 200's. Maybe that is just "my" norm. I read about the hypercholesteremia too this a.m. Don't they come up with some scarey names.Ok so my cholesterol went up to from 4.7 to 10 mmol/l = 386.6976 mg/dl 0.00 which is near enough to your measures. Currently my total cholesterol is 7.9 mmol/l = 305.49111 mg/dl, LDL 5.5 mmol/l = 212.68368 mg/dl HDL 2.1 mmol/l = 81.2065 mg/dl Trigs 0.6 mmol/l = 53.14438 mg/dl Hope the calculator is accurate. At my original 10.00 mmol/l I was referred to a lipidologist (worst thing I ever agreed to) who reasoned after a few questions but no testing that I had polygenic hypercholesteremia which is a genetic issue. I am not so sure as my cholesterol was relatively ok before starting keto, I think I may be what is termed by Dave Feldman as a "hyper responder", if you have not come across him, he is worth a read as he has done some very interesting research regarding cholesterol. You may also wish to check your numbers with the risk calculator he developed which is found at https://cholesterolcode.com/report.

I don't remember reading or hearing Dave Feldman but I will definitely check him out, and thank you again, also for the risk-calculator![]()
Thanks @Ryhia, it's to know for sure what to do these days, but you are trying your best and I also have been doing more chicken (I love baked thighs with skin and bone in) and I always have a bag of avocados. Sometimes I just cut a couple (they are small ones) and eat them with my chicken or salmon. Thanks to a little "outlet" market, we almost always have Wildcaught Alaskan Salmon ). I don't have a lot of variety of foods, no fancy recipes, and I look at it more as a have-to thing, or fuel. Not that I don't add a few spices here and thereWith regard to the hypercholestermia, I was told that they hadn't worked out all the genes involved and that the only medication they could offer would be statins and/or ezetimibe as I am reluctant to take either I have tried to impact my cholesterol by changing my diet. I used to eat lots of fat, snacked on butter etc. ate lots of protein whilst cream was my go to.
I have replaced my cooking fats with extra virgin olive oil - I stopped eating cream, - but it has crept in again,- tried to cut down on cheese and modified the amounts of meat I was eating - I now tend to choose chicken above red meat, and introduced a lot more fish into my diet. (freezer full of salmon) I also try to eat lots of avocados and have greatly increased the amount of fibre I eat as fibre is supposed to be beneficial. I reduced the amount of eggs I eat simply because they are high in cholesterol.
I have refused statins so far although the lipid doctor is insistent I should take them but I reason if I managed to raise my cholesterol levels through diet, then I should be able to reduce them in the same way - but it is a slow process. My lipid doctor is convinced I will never be able to reduce my cholesterol sufficiently through diet alone but then she wants my cholesterol to be at some ridiculously low number just because of the Type 2 diagnosis, (for which she insists I am in remission). I think she said it needed to be 4 my cholesterol has never been and probably never will be 4. When I challenged her on this, she did back down a little and said if I could get it down to 5 it would be ok. Probably shooting for the moon but giving it a go.
Think you are probably correct and your 200 level is your norm, some people just have higher cholesterol levels - not sure if that is anything to worry about or not. Maybe a CAC scan would be beneficial for you
I wish her the best, I know a lady over here there that is in her 70s, and is a Type 1 and has a gadget on her hip that gives her insulin so she eats what she wants. She's doing it her way and seems fine and happy.Just an afterthought, I had a friend who said her cholesterol levels were 24 mmol/l = 928.07425 mg/dl she definitely beats you mind you she was put on statins as soon as they found out - I think I might have done as well if my levels were that high. She is now 88 is a very naughty type 2 and is still going strong.
