I have been type 1 diabetic since I was 12 so 12 years now and have only today changed to basal bolus I was given so much info yesterday that it was a lot to take in, I've just had a hypo so do I need to inject novo rapid to account for the carbs I've just eaten to treat the hypo??

Sorry, that was my quick response so you didn't. If you had a small amount of carbs to correct the hypo don't bolus for those carbs cos it will just drop you down again. if you really over treated the hypo with loads of carbs you might want to correct for that later. But I probably wouldn't be over concerned about that in the first few days of getting used to basal bolus.

It's not really best practice to give a correction for high caused by over treating a hypo - cos once you've had one hypo you are more vulnerable to another - so if you do go high and want to correct, it's probably better to save that correction dose to add on to the bolus for your next meal.

Have you been given an Accucheck Aviva Expert Meter to help you?
If you had one of these set up correctly with acting time and ratios etc you would be able to see if you had any insulin still working in you from meals...

You must treat hypo's without injecting any bolus.

It is important not to over treat hypo's. I base my treatment on if I have any bolus active in me...

My nurse tells people to over treat.. Badly so....

No. And if you climb I was told when starting my pump to wait until the meal after you see the high. So say you go hypo at 8am. If you're high at lunch time you would not correct it. However if you were still high late afternoon you might start correcting but you have to be aware of everything you've eaten or taking insulin for in the interim.
