Hi I’m new to Keto, been doing it for 3 weeks and think I’m doing ok.
I’m based in the UK and want to know what is the best protein powder I can use to boost my protein levels if I’m not getting enough from my foods. Someone has suggested putting some in my bulletproof coffee in the morning ?? As I’m not feeling full enough after it. Currently putting tbsp of butter and a tbsp MCT oil in.
I seem to be getting enough fat throughout the day but my protein always comes up short. Any advice would be great.
Also I’ve set my carbs to the lowest and I think I’m ok with them. The majority of my carbs are coming in from my veggies anyway. Veggies I’m eating are salad leaves, avocados, cucumber, spinach, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower (as cauliflower rice ), mushrooms, small amount of tomatoes sometimes. are there others I should be trying to eat

Is there a particular reason why you're looking at protein powders rather than regular food? Are you vegan/vegetarian?

I buy an unflavoured whey isolate with no additives, so I have the option of what to mix it with. I find isolate slightly easier to digest and lower carb. It is a fair bit more expensive than just whey concentrate though, and the difference isn't that big.

I still try and get all my protein from whole foods as often as possible though. I'll have a shake on days when I've trained but not managed to eat as much, but usually I get it from fish, chicken, eggs, nuts, peas and seeds.

As for mixing protein with coffee - I tried once and found it utterly vile!

Thanks for the quick reply,
No no reason just some days especially if I don’t eat eggs all the time I struggle with getting enough protein. For example yesterday I only managed to get 40 g of protein down me.
Ooooow I’ve only just got used to the taste of the coffee so I won’t be adding anything in that may make it worse then. Someone in another group has suggested adding a raw egg, (was too chicken to do it this morning lol).
I’m managing to hit my fat goals and I think my carb goals are under control, I’m always under 20g of carbs according to the app I’m using.
Maybe I should try getting more nuts down me. I do eat nuts but also aware they can be carby so I weigh what I eat.
Are frozen peas ok to eat cos I would eat them, for some reason I thought they might be higher in carbs.

Raw egg - what a sadist - cooked eggs would be fine and not gross you out.

Haha I might aswell eat a couple of cooked eggs separately if that’s the case, what I was trying to do was keep the coffee just as my meal and not eat at that particular time if you get me.
Yeah the thought of chucking a raw egg into my coffee didn’t appeal to me at all

Those little pots for poaching eggs in the microwave can be handy when in a rush. You just crack it in, add a splash of water and microwave for a minute.

Being told “Oh go on, one won’t hurt you!”.
Conversely, the food police.

Can you not increase your protein intake later in the day, in your regular “food” meal?

Why do you think you’re not getting enough protein? 40g protein a day is just slightly below the average for a woman so your not far off, 1 egg has about 6g of protein so even just adding an egg every day will boost your protein levels. I’ve been low carbing for 14 year, the last 6yes or so on keto and the only macro I count is carbs and I’ve never counted protein etc and everything seems to be fine for me.

Maybe just add an egg to your lunch or breakfast will do the trick, I boil a few at the beginning of the week and use them all week from the fridge

I can't imagine being low on protein when low carbing (unless a vegan).
With all the Fish, meat, eggs, cheese, nuts, seeds I eat there's no chance of being low on protein.

Also, I don't understand why people use MCTs and other keto supplements rather than real food. Perhaps its due to American influence - they seem to prefer supplements and fake food to the real thing!

Still, perhaps some folks in here will point out that I don't specifically do Keto, just very low carb (between 20gms and 40gnms per day and never measure Ketones).
