I've just got a GlucoNavii machine for my husband. He's a new Type2. Blood tests at GP just tipped him over into Type2 so he's just over the threshold.
So, to get started, when is the best time of day to do the first reading for us to get a baseline?
Then we can start doing before/after meals.
Thanks.

Typically people will test first thing in the morning to get a baseline ‘fasting blood glucose’ reading. Some people do it immediately on waking, others after a quick bathroom trip. Doesn’t really matter so long as you’re consistent so that comparisons are meaningful.

Generally that’s also the last reading to come down and can be impacted by something called ‘dawn phenomenon’ (search on the forum), so the pre and post meal readings will be most important early on. Get the food and overall management right and the fasting number will usually follow.

Hi @Daisy1234

Great start with monitor .bravo

@Goonergal spot on.

I saw the monitor as helping me spot all the 'enemies' hiding on my plate.

Was never interested in food & diets so 'healthy' eating was what I was told it was .

T2D changed all that ...and for the better.

Trips to the fridge or kitchen can be a minefield early on
So lots of testing is normal.

The meter is your mine detector AND early warning system.

Used wisely you get SO much data to guide you through the good & bad.

Best of luck on the journey
Sound like he got a keeper when he met you ..

I will add on to @Goonergal great advice.
If you are finding your fasting test is a bit high, due probably to dawn phenomenon, wait half an hour after getting out of bed. And use that as a baseline.
If you want to, after you have established your baseline, a pre meal first meal test is a better substitute.
And it means not testing too much.
The important thing in testing is discovering which foods are the ones that are causing the spikes. Reducing the carb portions of those foods will help with control of the blood glucose levels.

Keep asking
Best wishes.
