new - understanding glucose levels/variation plus seronegative background

Newbie
Hello, Im new here and would appreciate joining in this forum with a few questions and thoughts:

My question: I had heard that after a meal most non-diabetics spike at max 140mg/dl.But reading more details on online in forums, I read that healthy non-Ds mainly have glucose of 90-120 most of the day and mostly only go up to 120 after a meal unless its a very glutenous meal, .. So I was wondering, is this great variability known to any of you and also is it really true that most non diabetes on an average day mostly oscillate between 90-120?
..

Warm regards Karo

Hello, Im new here and would appreciate joining in this forum with a few questions and thoughts:

A little background: I am 55, have a BMI of 18.5 (157cm, 45.5kg ) and recently discovered by chance (long story) that I have glucose levels of up to 250 after eating. OGTT was 240 at 1 hour and 170 at 2 hours. I have a history of immune dysregulation (including Lymphoma - B cell cancer) and an uncle and cousin with type 1 diabetes. My C peptid is 543 pmol (norm range of lab 368-1477) and HOMA is 1.6. My hbaic is still normal at 5.5. probably due to the great variabilty of my values (I range between 65-250). My antibody tests were negative but I saw a specialist and she said that about 20% are seronegative (I also have hypothyroidism since 25 years and they never found antibodies, plus b cell cancer with rituximab treatment, plus another illness where I failed to produce anibodies, plus an absolute secondary IgA deficiency, probs fom rituximab)). They are currently monitoring me with a sensor for a month and will then decide how to progress.

My question: I had heard that after a meal most non-diabetics spike at max 140mg/dl.But reading more details on online in forums, I read that healthy non-Ds mainly have glucose of 90-120 most of the day and mostly only go up to 120 after a meal unless its a very glutenous meal, then 140 is possible. When Im not shooting up to 200, I notice that even a snack like an apple or eg yesterday just eating 2-3 tomatos (I love them!) will take me up to over 140+. Also there is great variability. The other day I drank a capri sun and was only up to 135, yesterday I drank one and went up to 195 (gonna stop these). And sometimes I really crash down afterwards eg 3.5 hours (and not yet eating) after OGTT, I was at 57. So I was wondering, is this great variability known to any of you and also is it really true that most non diabetes on an average day mostly oscillate between 90-120? Also if anyone has any thoughts about my background info, I'd be grateful to hear.

Sorry this got so long...

Warm regards Karo
There are quite a few technical terms here which I do not know without doing research. But I did find this site which might be helpful to you? https://asianheartinstitute.org/blog/blood-sugar-level-chart-by-age/

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I have read your post twice and the reason I was tagged and responding is the blood glucose levels you have detailed.
I am glad you are on a continuous glucose monitor. And this should more detail of your results over the period you use it.
First thing to use alongside the monitor is a food diary. As it will correlate with your blood glucose levels.
Yes you are non diabetic, and I would accept the premise of using different readings, for different times because of how our bodies work throughout the day. And of course what your blood glucose levels before you eat or drink. Also, we are all different. Also, we have different other conditions which may or may it effect the blood glucose levels, the meds, the medical history and such.
The OGTT you had, by your reading of 57, was this after three to four hours?
Was the test stopped?
Are you aware of your blood glucose levels going that low often? (Known as Hypoglycaemia)
If so, how often?
Have you got further tests coming up?

I am non diabetic, I have episodes of hypoglycaemia.
But my other conditions are nowhere as severe as you are suffering.
Have you been diagnosed with anything that could develop a condition with your pancreas?
I ask this because there are other conditions that are similar to mine and over produce insulin.
And this can be many reasons for it.
In my case, too much glucose from carbs or sugars, cause very high BG levels after an hour or before, around fifty minutes, this causes my pancreas to over produce insulin, and I have a hypoglycaemic episode. My failsafe from my liver is ineffective (glucogenisis or liver dump)
I use dietary control to stop the episodes.
My condition is called Non diabetic Late Reactive Hypoglycaemia.
We have our own sub forum. It is in the forum list.
I cannot diagnose you on this matter I would be remiss and guessing. Never mind forum rules.
And further not enough detail and not enough diagnostic tests done.
I hope this helps.
A five hour oral glucose tolerance test is an eOGTT. (Extended)
Did the staff use a cannula? Did they take regular venal bloods?
Ask if they took insulin levels tests?
The next steps are usually a mixed meal test, intolerance tests, maybe allergy test.
The last test is a 72 hours fasting test. But I believe that could be too much with your conditions.
Best wishes.
