Hi caroline 83 and welcome to the forums.

It can be extremely confusing at first. There's a lot of contradictory stuff on the internet and it can be very hard to know which bits to trust. It would help people to reply to you if you could give some additional information - for example - do you know what your HbA1c level was? (That's the test usually used to diagnose) What's your current diet like? Are you interested in learning about low-carb eating? Do you want to lose weight, or reduce your blood glucose, or both? Are you on any other medication (apart from metformin) or do you have any other relevant health conditions?

I'd encourage you to read around on the forum and don't be afraid to ask questions. We have all been where you are now. The really good news is that there is something you can do about the condition.

I think it's very common for a diagnosis to affect mental health - for many of us it's a bolt from the blue diagnosis, with no prior symptoms. Mine was discovered accidentally after one of my cats bit me.

The post from @KennyA asks for lots of information, which is the starting point for where you can go to. Try not to let the mental health issues stop you from making changes to your diet that will help. I know, much more easily said than done.

It's a big diagnosis, grief and trauma tend to come with it... That said, you came to the right place. Lots of people here who got their T2 under control, back to non- or prediabetic levels. You've got a bunch of things to learn, and possibly a few changes to make, but... I can tell you, you're going to be okay. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help clarify some things. And if you have any questions, throw them out there. There's always someone around with answers.

You be good to yourself, eh. And again... You'll be fine. You're not alone in this.
Jo
