Hello @Jillytee I can't add much more to the fab info above, except my congratulations on your progress so far. A tip I was told, if you want someone in your thread to get an alert that you've either quoted them or replying to them, put the@ sign directly infront of their name. Also it kinda checks if you've got the spelling right..
Well done for being so self motivated. Keep going, keep posting
Hi @Jillytee My total cholesterol went up from 4.7 to 6.1 and my GP suggested I cut down on the cream, butter and cheese and eat more oily fish, avocados and olive oil instead if I wanted to eat high fats.Hi all, good news is bs is down to 6.3, previously 6.8 and a weight loss of 16kg since last September following the lchf diet. However my total cholesterol is still 7, HDL 2.25, LDL 4.1, trigs 0.8, cholesterol/HDL ratio 2.78, so have been given statins and told not to eat butter, cheese, sausages, or full fat anything and only 3 eggs a week and no prawnswhich rather messes up my lchf diet !!
Does anyone have any advice or experience of this please?
Sadly, yes, the guidelines are out of date. Most of us are forging our own path. I wouldn't worry too much about the cholesterol either. I don't think the rise is anything to do with what you've been eating on LCHF. My cholesterol levels FELL after three months.Thank you all so much for sharing your knowledge with me and confirming my own thinking. I argued my case yesterday with the practice nurse but she would not concede on anything other than to say she had to stick to NHS guidelines !
Why are they so outdated when there is so much research and information out there, I feel that all my efforts will be undone if I follow nhs advice
It wasnt specifically a fasting test for the first or second test although I hadn't had anything except a cup of tea. It was an hba1c test and I only got the second test because I went into the surgery and asked for it. Prior to that no one had seen me since the first test result in September! I don't think my surgery is turning out to be very clued up about T2. They completely dismissed my request for a meter saying it wasn't necessary.Hi,
Is the 6.3mmol/l from a morning fasting blood glucose test(before breakfast on waking up)?
Did you managed to get a meter and do some fasting and aftermeal checks?
Maybe I missed something in the above posts, but I'm still confused how you can be told you're T2 unless the result was a hba1c test, even so it has to be done again after 12 weeks to confirm, and if the 6.3% was your second test, that would put you in the pre-diabetic range.
