Hi everyone, I’m Jilly I’m in Ireland. Pre diabetic I need help, starting this is so hard. Hope everyone is having a good day
Hey Jill,

First off, breathe. You didn't get to the prediabetic stage overnight, so you don't have to fix everything and know everything, right this minute. There's a lot to learn, but the basics are relatively simple, so... Take a breath and know this: Prediabetes just means you could probably make a few slight changes and get your numbers back into the normal range. You're catching this thing early, quite a few of us had very high numbers to come back down from... So consider yourself ahead of the curve, you're "just" pre, and already here to learn!

The basics? Practically all carbs turn to glucose once ingested. Cut down on the carbs, replace them with protein and (healthy) fats so you're not hungry all the time and don't get malnourished, and your blood sugars should come down right quick.

This might help a bit: https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html

Just, you know... You're not doomed. You're onto this thing early, and being proactive about it. That's a very, very good and healthy response. If you have questions, throw them out there: there's usually someone here with answers.

Be good to yourself eh. It is a shock, be it prediabetes or diabetes, so do give yourself a break.
Hugs,
Jo

Hi, pre-diabetic doesn’t mean defo diabetic - I was type 2, and got into remission by following guidance from diabetic team, and information on here, it can be successfully managed, although maybe don’t start it tomorrow!

Hello and welcome @Jilly77

Fortunately you have found this site which I believe is the best place in the world to receive advice and support following your diagnosis. As previous people have said- while it may feel devastating it can be managed.

Read around the site- ask questions and feel free to vent. This forum has some of the wisest and most compassionate people I know.

Good luck and welcome.
