Hi guys , my name is Tanya and i was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 at the end of last year , i was given metformin to take and worked my way up to 2000 mg per day, 2 in the morning , 2 with the evening meal , however this gave me awful stomach issues so i was changed onto the slow release which seemed to do the trick , however they are really struggling to get my blood sugar under control with metformin and my latest hba1c was appalling so my GP said !! he is sending me for another one to double check the levels , but currently im struggling to get my sugars below 12 mmol/L even at bedtime . my highest reading today was 13.1 !! , to say the least i feel bloody awful , obviously the doctor sais be mindful of your diet but to be honest i have no clue what to avoid eating... well apart from the obvious sugary **** ect ....i love plain pasta and chicken and fish potatoes ect and eat them most weeks , but im really in the dark of what foods to avoid ect ....
i am also a bit confused at my GPs latest comment that if my blood sugars arent coming under control through oral drugs and are staying that high i may well not be a type 2 at all .... what does that mean ... that im a type 1 ? can that happen ? can they confuse the 2 ....
also since being diagnosed i have really struggled to lose weight , at the minute i am quite overweight and was doing very well with the weight loss but since ive had issues with my sugar it doesnt seem to be happening , i also seem to have a major issue with water retention .... my legs and feet mostly ... is this from my diabetes ?? ..... to be honest im so confused and could really do with some advice from anyone !!!!
thanks !!!
Tanya
