Type 2 Newcastle Diet and Fatty Liver

I have fatty liver and am taking steps to lose weight and go to Slimming World. Is it safe to do the ND with a fatty liver? Considering it involves a 600 calorie a day diet and I've heard with fatty liver you have to lose weight steadily.
 
If you put ND into the search box above you will see quite a few members who are doing/have done ND. I will tag @Muzzer for you who just finished the eight week course today and has seen great results. Prof. Taylor has YouTube videos explaining how and why cutting down the fat in the liver and pancreas is as important as losing subcutaneous fat. Hope this helps.
 
You will need to satisfy yourself by waying up the evidence. The ND is designed to reduce visceral fat, fat in the liver and pancreas quickly (8 to 12 weeks). Michael Mosley believes that fast weight loss is not a problem. I have read that gallstones can be a problem sometimes with rapid reduction.

I have not read any accounts on this site of issues (medical) on the ND.
 
In many ways the ND is the ideal route to take if you have fatty liver, as it seems to remove visceral fat from the liver first, and then the pancreas. It's definitely safe to do it - however as people have mentioned there are general things to consider.

Gallstones have been a problem for some people and the current approach recommends having some olive oil every day while on the diet to stop them appearing or growing. You will also need to be aware of going back to your old diet after completing the 8 weeks - as if you gain the weight back you'll undo all your good work.
 
Originally I was scanned for gallstones based on my symptoms (dull pain under right rib, radiating to the back of right shoulder blade) but no gallstones were found but fatty liver showed up and I'm guessing my fatty liver caused my diabetes cos it goes hand in hand. Have got lots of weight to lose so hoping with time it will reverse fatty liver and improve BS.
 
OK well in that case ND may work for you depending on how you react to hunger.
If you don't handle hunger well then a well formulated ketogenic diet may well be easier to stick to - maybe just eating once per day (intermittent fasting). A number of forum members have done the ND over the past ouple of months with varying degrees of ease so check out their threads in the Low Calorie diet threads. @CherryAA is working on something similar but using an LCHF eating protocol should give similar results her thread is here..

Yes, my idea is to try to get 100% of all nutrients for 1000 calories by just eating once per day. theoretically that will include enough of everything to prevent other problems developing- for example gallstones. Interestingly the only easy way I have found to get a proper balance between omega 3 and omega 6 fats - which is important to general health is a teaspoon of cod liver oil before the meal. There is a doctor in Germany also trying to get very low calorie diet adopted as a "cure" for diabetes , but his protocol involves three shakes plus 2 tablespoons of olive oil. I do think that with a VLC diet there is a temptation to simply cut out oils because these are so calorific. That's might be ok for a very short period, but I wouldn't want to do it for two months. Not least because the essential fatty acids in om 3 and om 6 cannot be produced by the body, instead they must be eaten. I haven't seen the actual composition of the shakes so I don't know if they are sufficient in this regard.

In essence another way to look at my experiment is that it's basically an 800 calorie VLC real foods diet with a deliberate 200 calories of mixed oils added - butter, olive oil and cod liver oil as each of the fats they contain are important to health and I'm not sure how they can be provided by powdered shakes given that they are not water soluble so I don't know how one can make powders out of them.
