Newcastle diet starting Monday, done it once who gonna join me on my journey??

well its a week since i did the two day fast started it Sunday morning until Tuesday morning and then on the ND. starting weight 19st 13lbs

feeling bloody marvelous, not hungry at all i've lost 14lb (18st 13lbs blood sugars 6.0 when i got up this morning,) i can think a l lot more clearly and the wife can't keep up with me when i'm walking now lol.

I've made some great veggy soups this week, and used my electric whisk to mix the Asda shakes and they turn into an Angel Delight type consistency, also not had one drink of alcohol since last Saturday, so chuffed with that as well.

i hope everyone else is doing as good as me

Well done, Squarebanana, keep it up. It would be great if you could reverse your diabetes and stay on a modified diet to keep you healthy and your BG normal.

Thank you, GlitterBritches, for your nice reply yesterday. It REALLY helped me stay with this. Good explanation, too, of how this works. I've re-read your post several times, both yesterday and today.

And Brettsza, thank you, too, also for you really nice reply. I'm definitely teetering on the edge, so all this support really helps. Today is day 4. I surely do hope this gets easier. Oddly, I'm not quite as hungry as I expected, so far, but the edge of hunger that I do have, coupled with the emotional pull of "treats" that the rest of the family has around (mostly oatmeal, raisins, peanuts...not even the really hard core stuff which fortunately we don't have in the house), is really difficult to resist.

SquareBanana, I'm glad that you're feeling so well and doing so well. That is further motivation for me to hear.

thanks Reama, i hope everything goes well for you also.

Also does anyone know of any other recipes with just veg other than soup and salad, as i want to create some more variety, oh and i've got some quorn sausages are these ok to have.

cravings wise i could murder a bacon barm with hp sauce but i daren't, before this diet my staple breakfast everyday was full english or two barms with 1 or 2 of the items in a full english, i think it would be more of the cravings of white bread, that i'm missing

Everyone try to stay with it
Day 6 in the newcastle diet house
Got up today checked sugar 8.5 so no do good but last night was a real difficult night and I succumbed to some icing sugar ready mix lol the sugar craving got me doh
But on plus side I also knew o was doing 10km assault course with 30 obstacles later in the day
Well completed obstacle course and cut 25 mins off last years time although last year I had torn my calf quite badly playing rugby two weeks before the course, but still happy with time, went to pals after and had a small amount of beige food and two bottles of Miller light!!!!! To celebrate obviously!!! Checked my sugars about 1 1/2 hours later and 6.5 so no massive spike as normal , stiff as owt now like and legs are cut and bruised but feel alive.
Don't know if I mentioned it before but I've been diagnosed for 15 years so it shows the diet can help everyone.
I'm starting to think t2 diabetes is a dietary condition and not specifically a medical one, the complications are medical but disbetes T2 is about what you put in your mouth

Crikey I must be an Angel, I'm sticking to this diet to the letter, an Geordie90 was on pork loin the other night, and 2 x bottles of millers light yesterday LOL sounds like heaven to me.

Anyone know what else I can have the odd time to drink, like tea, coffee etc and what other foods that are low calorie besides vegetables, I would jut like to introduce a bit more variety, although I'm not going down the millers light route, as I have supped too much over this last few years and that needs knocking on the head, as I'm giving my liver at least 8 weeks off processing alcohol.

And we'll done Geordie90 with the assualt course and playing rugby, I need to get a bit of weight off before I jump on the bike, as I have been feeling a bit lethargic this last 24 hrs and last night slept through from 7pm until 7am this morning but yesterday was a hard day at work.

This morning blood sugar at 5.7 although weight up 1 and 3/4lb but did hit the vegetables and quoin sausages last night lol

Cauliflower, makes a good substitute for potato. Bake it, roast it, mash it. Also makes a good substitute for rice. Courgettes good substitute for pasta. Then make sauce with tomatoes, onions and herbs or spices of choice. Many veg can be bakes. Kale can be made crispy in a warm oven, and makes a crunchy alternative to crisps for a snack.

Tea and coffee without milk are fine if you are using meal replacement version of ND. Any leaf tea is ok too, so I include peppermint tea, no fruit teas though. If doing VLCD with real food just factor in the calories if you add milk.

One other thing that's changed is my eyesight, I went for my retinopathy test last week and everything was fine, but this week my near vision is more blurred, just checked my sugars after my tea of carrot and rocket soup and it was 5.9 So really happy, I think I will need new spectacles as well soon.

No problem Geordie mine is for life also, I'm watching what you have so keep us informed, as after the 8 week or until I get to the weight I want, I need to then think of a diet that will keep me lean and trim, without putting on the pounds.

I used to drink holsten pils because it is low sugar but I must admit I am a real ale drinker and there's nothing better to me than a pint of wobbly Bob but it will have to be a once a week experience.

Although the wife had a couple of cans of Stella and I wasn't to impressed with the smell, of which mines returning with a vengeance, I can smell teacakes toasting from outside the house with the doors shut LOL

Sb I'm a vodka slimline tonic man tbh low cal and easy to drink lol I'm back on it the mora properly but had nice lunch today of vegetables and meat for father in laws birthday. Back in the gym the mora night too for an hour bit of cardio and lots of weights I'm going to Egypt in July so want to have a one pack lol

I have started my VLCD / ND today.

Too much 'good living' lately has made me gain a fair bit of weight. Still have good BG , but have to take action. Too ashamed to reveal weight and size, but aiming for at least 2 stone reduction before I stop. Was going to start April 1st. Seemed an appropriate date for an old fool like me, but decided to seize the day today, just in case I was tempted by those Easter goodies in the shops.

There, I have made a public declaration. No going back on my word now.

Well done @Pipp and welcome to the roller coaster ride again
I have lost about 8 kilos in 12 days now but a sixth of my weight is about 12 kilos which I might achieve in let say another week and a half or two. Should I continue after that what do you think.

Thank you @brettsza

Your HbA1c record looks good.what about fasting BG, post prandial BG etc?

Did you have a particular weigh loss aim? Sorry if you have provided this elsewhere. So many ND threads at the moment that I am losing track a bit.

Bit disappointed today weight loss not happening but last time was exactly same body goes into starvation mode next week will be good.
More importantly sugars are dropping well in a week dropped from 13 to 7 first thing in morning
Not getting down heartened though I'm a big bloke who tones up really quickly so just going to keep going

No worries @Pipp
My figures are all in 4's between 4.2 and 5 but my fasting is still 5.1 but I have stopped all Medication fearing what if I have a hypos

You are T2 though? What does doc have to say about it?
Did the BG levels go that low after starting ND? What were they like before?
I think if I was where you are at I would be thinking of stopping the VLCD when I achieved the weight loss needed. Reintroduce food gradually, especially the carbs, and test BG and weight regularly so you can take action if you see unwanted rise.

Fasting of 5.1 is fine. Well done on what you have achieved. What does doc think?
