Newcastle diet starting Monday, done it once who gonna join me on my journey??

Thanks Rob

Sounds like the shakes and bars are ok - but the rest of it is down to taste! Like you, I prefer someone else to worry about the balance of vitamins, fiber etc etc etc. Might dip a toe and see what the shakes and bars are like. :watching:

hi well i am starting my diet tomorrow , did people have a shakes 3 times , what kind of food did people and when

Day 41. Weight loss 0.4kg. Yes - I know - amazing overnight loss of 0.4 kg :D Weight is now 86kg exactly. BMI is 24 exactly - and fasting blood is 5.2 - again down - one point exactly!!!!.:singing:

Hi TyTy

I think your questions have been answered in earlier posts - you need to look back through this discussion. The information has not changed.

God luck with the ND.

Good luck TyTy - it will take a few days to get used to, two shakes and then a soup or salad - see previous posts watch the weight fall off.

Day 13. Weight loss back on track. Now down 5kg (11lb) and BMI is 25. I am 0.1 kg above 'normal'. More importantly my fasting blood was 5.2 this morning - and averaged 5.6 over the last week. Felt really cold again last evening - which I am recognising as a sign of weight loss.
Ha, funny you should say that. I decided yesterday that the reason I have had to add more bedclothes is because I have lost my built in duvet! Nice to see someone sort of confirming that hypothesis.

Thank you , just had my first shake, so hope all goes well
Just a tip from Steve50 first shake around 12:00, second one around 16:00, Salad or soup at 19:30 - I get the munchies at night so this seams to work better for me, fill yourself up with tea or coffee without milk before 12:00. Need some salt and a spoon of Olive oil in the salad or soup, drink plenty of water. Good luck and keep reporting in.

Thanks Rob

I found a distinct taste & consistency improvement when I crushed ice in a blender first before adding and mixing everything in the blender too. Better than just whisking in a bowl, for example.

my first day seem to go well,

had shake in the morning, then at lunch time soup and salad, in the evening had a shake and some vegetables, Drinking caffeine free tea and water all day

my readings before my evening meal yesterday was 5.00 and then 2 hours later was 5.5. i did not take my metformin in the evening.

This morning my reading was 5.8

Day 42 - Two weeks to go (I remember when Brettza had only two weeks to go!). Weight down another 0.1 kg. Total weight loss on the ND 8.5kg - very happy with that. BMI still 24. Fasting blood 5.9. Still a little high - but I'll take anything under 6.

I can see the finish line.

Great going @Steve50.

I jumped off the wagong for a brief time yesterday with the pre-planned afternoon tea at a lovely hotel overlooking Windermere. Had a breakfast shake in the morning then nothing until arriving at the hotel when pre-eating BG was 4.7. Indulged in 4 finger sandwiches and 6 smallish cake offerings with tea & milk (not taken sugar for years). 2 hours after finishing eating BG was a very acceptable 7.1 and 3hrs after eating 5.4, so I am delighted how my body has managed that "normal" food intake - as a one off, occassional treat.

I can't believe how full I felt as well. I didn't want anything else for the rest of the day, whereas a month ago before starting this diet I would have been hankering for a significant Saturday night meal of steak, chips, onion rings, mushrooms & big bowl of side salad followed by some sort of sweet desert. I think the stomach has definitely shrunk.

Your bodyfat setpoint is starting to get reset at a lower level, that is why you experience that incredible saitety. When you do this dieting, you give your brain a pause from all kinds of food, a kind of break for your brain when it comes to food reward. I have had periods when i was addicted to dietsoda, needed several a day, and before that cola as well. When I have cut out soda for months at a time, and then taste it, its not as good, the same is the case with candy.

I found the last week to be most difficult of the 8 weeks as the finish line is so close you just want to start eating but you will get there.

Day 43. No more weight loss. Fasting blood 4.3 :p. Very Very Very happy with that. I did drink a load more water yesterday - so I wonder if that made any difference. I kind of had to - first bbq for the year - all the kids were round, big family occasion. I did all the cooking. My strategy was to serve it up as it was cooked - so there was always something on the bbq which needed my attention - they ate, I cooked - and when the last thing came off, they were pretty much done. I sat down to a salad and no-one really noticed. Must have been the beer - they drank!. But it was without doubt the toughest day so far in terms of resisting food - so I drank loads of water. Maybe 4ltrs. Felt bloated - but had no room for food. As I can see the finish line (13 days to go) I am feeling more tempted to pick at the peanuts on the table or take that last strawberry. But it must be just force of habit. I know I don't really need it.

Thanks again for the encouragement guys.I realise this is pretty boring stuff - but to be able to dump it here takes a load off.

This 'theory' makes a lot of sense - and puts plainly - what many of us (I'm sure) have thought about. It's not only about losing the weight but keeping it off - and that relies on re-setting our systems to 'defend' the right body/fat mass. That is, the correct fat mass for our personal fat threshold (to combine the theory with Prof T and the ND).

Personally - I think this will require a lifestyle change. I agree we do not want to be constantly 'concentrating' on losing weight - which is what I feel I am doing on the ND. It's exhausting, anti social and I doubt that is it physically and mentally healthy in the long run. I think that once the weight is down, and hopefully T2 in remission - then the challenge will be - of course - to stay there. So, this may require a re-setting of my system, which will include a measure of consciously selecting food and intentionally altering my eating habit - but neither to a point which remains the same level of effort as the ND.

We have discussed the HFLC - which I agree is effective - but I'm not sure for me that it will be the complete answer in the long run. I think I will change a few things about the house, such as what I have in the cupboards and fridge. Removing temptations that are essentially empty calories will be a start. Then I think I will have 'leaning' towards HFLC. Nothing wrong with an omelette without toast or a steak with just a salad and nice creamy pepper sauce. To be honest I prefer them that way. But I also think the introduction of fasting will be important for me. I'll have to see what it takes - either the 5/2 or a 24 hr fast once a week or so may be needed. This will hopefully reduce the mental strain of maintaining my right weight.

It will be a case of trail and error I'm sure - but I'm also predicting that it will not be as simple or strait forward as just one change. It will require some re-learning and developing some survival strategies. We have to survive in a world that - for us Diebies - is designed to basically kill us. We live in a world where we grew up with and are surrounded by the wrong diet, and wrong social environment. We cant change the world we live in - so we have to change the way we live in it.

End of though stream.

Maybe the ND is waking up a few neglected brain cells after all!!!!:playful:

 I guessed it couldn't be as simple as " my stomach's shrunk". Thanks for the links.
