Newly diagnosed and confused about blood testing

The testing before driving is not that straightforward. If you have a normal car license, you are only required to test if you're on insulin. If you're on tablets that can cause hypo's, unless you have an LGV license, no requirement to test. Strange but those are the rules.

DVLA rules state if you have a normal car license, only required to test if on insulin. The only time you need to test if on BG lowering tablets, Gliclazide etc is if Class 2 LGV license.

All diabetics taking any medication that could give a hypo also have to notify DVLA. This is also the case for many other diseases... Even depression.....if you are taking certain depression drugs you should notify DVLA... It's not just diabetes.

That's not totally correct. You only need to tell DVLA if you are on insulin. If treated by tablets, no need to inform DVLA. The exception to this would be if you are suffering with complications or have LGV license. You do red to tell your insurance company though. See the DVLA link:
