Hi I've recently diagnosed Diabetic, GP not sure if it's T1 or T2.

I am 37, my hba1c was 90mmol and BS was 26.2. My ACR was 3.25.

My GP has prescribed me 1000mg x 2 metformin, 80mg Gliclazide & 100mg Sitaglyptin. Currently sugar levels are controlled, do occasionally get hypos... Generally well!

I am very active person before I was diagnosed, has a come as a shock. Anyone has helpful advice going forward.

P.S my Hba1c 6 months ago was 42mmol. Do my readings now indicate that T1 diabetes???

Hi, Welcome :)

i know a little about dieting but not enough about your numbers to be of any use im afraid, but someone will im sure

Best of Luck :)

Those figures wouldn't have to mean Type 1. My first ever hba1c was 86 and I got it down to 36.5 within a year without medication. I am type 2. It is quite usual for people to jump from being not diabetic to diabetic in the way that your hba1c has jumped.

Your fasting BS of 26.2 is high, a lot higher than your hba1c would suggest, which is probably a more accurate reflection of the overall state of affairs because it is an average, but the 26.2 does need bringing down, especially if it were to make regular appearances. That's probably why you have been put on metformin. Your ACR is a measure of how much protein leaks into your urine and is a test for kidney function. It is supposed to be 2.5 for males and 3.5 for females. I am currently 6.5 although I have been 9.5. Some people are over 100.

Hi. If you aren't overweight then it's possible you are a Late onset T1 (LADA or 1.5). The blood sugar level doesn't in itself help the diagnosis but if you aren't overweight and as you are quite young then LADA becomes a possibility. There are two tests to help diagnose it. The tablets you are on are the same ones I had before a move to insulin. Hopefully they will control your sugars but if your sugars keep rising then insulin may be needed. If you are overweight then attention to diet is of course needed.
