Hi,
I was diagnosed a week ago with probable Type 2 although as my blood sugar was 30mmols and my Hbac1 was 148 (off the scale!) the diabetic clinic will rule out LADA apparently. I'd asked for blood checks as I've lost quite a bit of weight over the last year or so with no reason. Mainly from my legs sadly!!! Amazingly no other signs or symptoms.
Anyway, I'm now on Metformin plus Amlodipine for my also brand new hypertension.
The BM's are gradually coming down and now sit around 14mmols before breakfast. I expect them to drop further once I'm on the full dose of Metformin in a couple of days.
I feel like I'm on a starvation diet though as I find lots of conflicting advice online and end up eating very little ... haven't been to a diabetic nurse yet. I hope to continue to lose weight as I'm still overweight (75kgs), but would quite like to relax my diet when my blood sugars reduce. I fully intend to eat a creme egg at Easter even though my wee granddaughter says I'm not allowed.
Mainly I'd like to understand the situation with dairy ... is it ok or to be avoided like the plague? I make my own yoghurt with a full fat starter and blue milk (gives the nicest end result), it's unsweetened and I add in fresh fruit for flavour. I see lots of recipes with cream too?
Very glad to have found this website with all it's helpful info!
