Newly Diagnosed type 2

hi NC194

welcome i was diagnosed 4 weeks ago and joined here 2 days ago. until then i had no idea what i was doing and what i was dealing with. there are some amazing people on here and its a great place to be. its my life line now

welome :)

You're doing very well, Turvell, and the advice adm gave about eating at Christmas was exactly what I was going to say myself!

Your "2 hours after" readings show you how your body is dealing with the glucose contained in your food. The lower the second reading, the better the insulin you produce is coping. I like my "after" readings to be about 2 points higher than my before - eg, 5.2 before, 5.4 after - but it took a long time, a four stone weight loss, and very low carbs to achieve that!

Don't let it get you down, - in fact, grab it by the scruff of the neck and give it a good shake! Have a lovely Christmas - just watch out for those carbs  :D

I've got 5 stone to loose I presume once I have it will get easier then. Well done you I'm considering lobbing a leg off the loose weight lol

It looks looks amazing , but I am not a meat eater so other people will know more, curry is fine, I rather like a few spices now and again, you are doing so well, I know it's early days, but you are very positive....brill. Kat x

dont feel so good today. i have had what i thought was UTI for about 6 months now. comes and goes. today i got a pain in my front left side above groin and burning urine again. and itchy. sitting with hot water bottle on my goin belly to see if that helps. someone suggested that it might be candida thrush. the sypmtoms seem like it. when i told my doc he laffed and said i need to get tested for Sexually transmitted diseases. but i know i havent done anything to get one. just feel very worried i dont understand it

Hi Steve sounds like it could be a UTI
You can ask reception to send a sample off or be tested at your health centre, gp should not of laughed these things are serious.....you know to keep the fluids up and you can buy products from pharmacy, you might want to ask them for suggestions, but gp and a urine sample is the best.....that's the trouble with this illness, just when you get one problem sorted out, another one crops up, stay strong......x

i have had a test urine test he said that i was clear of infection and that i was to have STI tests. but it cant be one as not done anything in years to be one. maybe i should go and see a pharmacy instead

hi steve, my brother had this problem before he was diagnosed with diabetes t2, it turned out to be a thrush type infection and it might help you to get some cream and a tablet for candida treatment, this you can get from a pharmacy , it wont hurt to try it , I wonder if your GP has been reading your posts and thinks you have been a love god already, cheeky sod aint he lol.

i think that i might go to the health centre pharmacy near work tomorrow. i think it is that too. love god me lol well ok yeah i was a while ago but not since i put on the weight even i have to turn the light off before i get undressed now lol. but i will loose the weight and become normal again. well i hope so :0. im going to try see a different doctor. but i know as soon as i tell them that the one i had been seeing worrys me as he seems to guess at things and tells me to stop worrying. eg i have had a stiff neck for 3 months now. un related im sure but he said. well dont think about it and im sure it will go away. well it has not. he is a total ass hole. but im sure when i tell another doctor i feel this way he will think of me as a trouble maker and treat me bad too. if only i was rich i would go private

that is exactly what happened to my brother ,he ended up with testicals the size of a bull, had to surgery to relieve the pressure, when he returned home, the doctor and receptionist, nurses and others were wicked in their neglect of him he got more and more distressed and angry, they would not let him in the surgery. in the end he moved surgery's they took bloods as they do at a new practice, phoned him up at 4am in the morning his bg was 44 mmols. three weeks later he was dead.
sorry if it looks bad what ive written I don't wish to offend you.best regards c

Go to the health place near your work and ask for advise.....
Suggest a list for the next gp you see, ask them to record your problems on your records because you are getting very concerned and need some medical support...
Stay calm and in control, you have the right to good health care.....let us know how you get on tc .....Kat

Hello Steve, I was diagnosed last Monday and given the same lost boy treatment you got, here's your equipment and go. I have read loads of good stuff on this site and have asked some noob questions but the people on here are really helpful.

I'm going to eat mainly meats and non starchy veg and limited dairy foods. going to treat myself to wild rice, wholemeal pasta every so often.

I think the way these doctors throw you to get on with it and leave you stranded, for example what does a peckish diabetic eat, what does a 9.3 reading mean...jumped into life and left to struggle on.

Hi

Your right I was and am been treated horribly as im sure you are too. If it was not for this site I would have been in a right state. Starting to make new friends too who get me like you get me. Where are you from ? I'm brunmie lol

from Essex Steve. have you enquired about desmond and healthy I courses yet?

Don't let them fob you off, phone them both, the diabetic clinic and your doctor, its your life.

Somebody posted some really information on one of my threads, I've copied and pasted it for you.

If you drew a graph showing your sugar levels throughout the day then the line would go up after you have eaten or if your liver finds that you haven't eaten and provides glucose to tide you over. The graph will go down with time and go down more quickly if you are active.

The going up after a meal can be rapid if you eat a lot of carbohydrates and more so if the carbs you ate have a rapid absorption rate (high GI). The going up and down of the graph is the spike people refer to. The current recommendation is that the glucose level should have come down to to 8.5 mmol/l or lower 2 hours after eating. If it's higher than that at the 2 hour mark then it is an unacceptable spike.

Eating lower GI foods will tend to flatten the line on the graph and eating smaller quantities of carbs will generally make it lower.
