Newly Diagnosed

I tend not to eat anything until my evening meal!
And I bet she didn’t/can’t explain why to eat frequently? If your pattern meant you got over hungry and ate junk there would be some validity to eating more often. Or if it means you don’t eat enough or miss nutritional needs again some validity. But a blanket eat more often is ridiculous and actually counter productive in type 2. Too match snacking is frequently an issue people have these days. Every time you eat you raise insulin and we need less of it usually.

One meal a day is absolutely fine, as long as you're not snacking. Every time we eat, it illicit s an Insulin response, This doesn't allow an improvement in resistance, so our problems caused by hyperinsulimia just continue. The lower we can get our Insulin levels, the better our systems work.

I am going back to work on Friday. Still another week of metformin once a day. I've been testing and seeing how I react to certain carbs. Had some "good" readings with my levels.

Really been struggling with my eyes. Going to have an eye test tomorrow just for reassurance. Although they seem much better today. Typical!

When your blood sugars change, so does your eyesight. Don't buy expensive glasses when cheap reading specs will tie you over!

Your eyes are altering as a reaction to the change in blood glucose levels - do not buy new glasses unless you find some cheap reading glasses will help - I mean the supermarket couple of pound sort. Your optician should not pressure you into buying new prescription glasses knowing that they'll soon be useless.
Some opticians have a guarantee agreement which means that in such circumstances you can get a retest and the new glasses corrected.

I ordered some test Strips online yesterday. I submitted a request to the surgery last week and I've just seen they have authorised them on prescription

I have been testing but not as much as I can. That is going to change now I can easily get hold of strips.

Sometimes in the 8s when fasting. Sometimes lower and higher.

Still fairly high aftermeals 10-15.

I had a little of a upset tummy for about 3 days but nothing else since.

I was diagnosed with T2 about 6 weeks back with an hb1ac of 106 and was seeing numbers up to nearly 20 in the morning and sometimes up to the mid 20's after meals. After 5 weeks of going low-carb (typically between 50 and 100g of carbs a day) I'm now mostly seeing results between 5.5 and 7 in the morning and haven't seen anything over 10 in the last 3 or so weeks. I'm on Metformin as well (2 x 500mg per day) but I think the bulk of the change is down to going low carb.

I'm hoping to get my hb1ac back to normalish levels in the next few months and off the Metformin (which hasn't been bad but does cause me some minor queasiness at times).

Brilliant! You are doing very well! We asked at my last appointment that if I get my hb1ac down would I be able to come off the metformin. The nurse said no I would have to continue with it.

They will take you off metformin if you get into the remission range, after all it costs them money... Until then, why not have that help in reducing your insulin resistance more, its got no real downsides unless you are missing the alcohol.

Hi Everyone, I am 33 and was only diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes yesterday. I have my first appointment with the Diabetes team tomorrow.

It was rather unexpected although both parents have Diabetes. I thought it would be something that may affect me much later in life.

My Hab1c is 76. The Dr told me to expect medication.

I've been such an emotional mess. The tears just keep flowing. I have have taken a few days off work to try and get my head around it all.

I have such terrible fatigue but always assumed I am a tired person. Regularly get headaches and just feel meh. Worried about my vision and blurry eyes. Had an eye test a year ago and they said i just had dry eyes.

The Dr did say I may not realise how unwell I feel until I feel better. My GP has been amazing. Diagnosed Wednesday and in with the Diabetes team 2 days later.

I am hoping the feelings pass
Dear emz89
I read with a a lot of attention your long message telling how you cope actually diabète recently discovered. I am aware how this affectes you emotionally.if i am in your place I would feel the same . But still always optimistic , progress on sciences and exploring nature in many different ways that would help , this give much hope to find the best treatments .

I had a follow up today. Got to stick to 2 metformin a day. Took weeks worth of BP readings in and they will get back to me.

Nurse told me she knew i was diabetic by my round tummy. Felt very fat shamed. Yes I am overweight but I am fully aware of that as it was discussed last time.

Not really sure what happens next. When should I expect another Hab1c test?

Your nurse obviously doesn't know her job then, as there are slim people with type 2 diabetes!! In any case, things like her remarks makes my blood boil, as there was no need to say it. Sending hugs x

You should get another hba1c in 3-6 months.

Your nurse should really have explained how type 2 encourages a 'bay window' effect - it is how the Human body tries to cope with it.
I always noticed that if I ever managed to lower weight on low carb it went from my waist but my fat soon rearranged itself to move from elsewhere to refill my belly - I was constantly encouraged to eat all those 'healthy' carbs and avoid the 'death dealing' fats even though I felt so ill when I did so.
