Hi, I'm just looking for a bit if advice I woke up this morning at around 4.15 very hot and sweaty, so got up and checked my bloods to find they were at 2.9 I took 3 dextro tabs and waited tested again and they had risen to 4.7 so had another waited and tested again was 6.2. Felt a little shaky so had a breakfast bar. I'm still new to this just wondering if I treated the hypo right? Felt different to other hypos I've experienced.
I'm a little worried as my reading have been up and down today had to wait a few hours this morning before driving as I was at 4 and read legally you should be around 5.
I a little concerned as I go away for a week on Friday not sure if I'm just panicking or should maybe go see my doctor.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks
Georgiee

Hi @Georgiee !

Firstly, don't panic, you did everything just fine. You were hypo aware upon waking, tested, treated, tested.

If you're off on holiday at the end of the week (lucky you!), it could be wise to consult your doc, even just to get some reassurance and advice.

Also, have you completed the Hypo Awareness Program? That could also help to reassure you / those around you:

Hi @Georgiee What are your BG levels like now ? DVLA states you can drive 45 minutes after your BG levels return to normal, so above 5 mmol/l. Have you advised them of your type 1 status ?

In regards to treatment you did fine there, you waited until they were above 4 before treating with carbs, personally I try to eat something with 10g of carbs so I don't rise too high after the event on the rebound, so for me it's a piece of toast. It's wise to avoid night time hypos though, so as your newly diagnosed, I would call your nurse/GP to explain this today and adjust your insulin, it's important you avoid these, please let us know how you get on ?

Thank you @SockFiddler
I saw the nurse this morning and she reassured me like yourself that treated the hypo right.
Because I'm under the hospital diabetes teams she had to speak to my nurse whom as suggested on evenig when I'm very active ( I bootcamp) I need to take 2 units less of the lavimair.
I will see how I go as I'm packing my running shoes lol!

Hi @Juicyj.
I have informed the DVLA I did this a few weeks after being confirmed as Type 1.
My bloods were 5.6 when I ate breakfast 5.7 at lunch and 6.6 at lunch.
I went to the docs this morning she assured me that I had treated the hypo right they have adjusted my evening insulin by 2 units due to my evening bootcamp sessions. Xx

Hi @Georgiee that sounds like a good plan, exercise will impact on your insulin requirements so hopefully this will prevent you going low overnight now :)
