Hi all
Just on first day of no carbs or sugar and im not too bad however i just wondered if i can have apples or apple cider vinegar?

Anyone else doing or done this?

Thanks

If you are actually trying to remain sugar and carb free for the day then apples are out as they do contain sugar as to ACV I am unsure.

Are you really sure about going completely zero carb not that theres anything wrong with that am just curious.

Hi @steveis36
Sorry don't know how to ask this without is sounding a little rude,
are you sure you understand what no carbs means?:bookworm:

An apple is about 30 grams of carbs which is more than most people eat in a day on a Keto diet.
It's contains natural sugars sucrose and fructose which means an extra work load on your liver in comparison to 30 grams of carbs from bread for example.:banghead:

A zero carb diet plan is basically no fruit or veg (all fruit and veg contain carbs) very high fat high & high protein diet.

IF the aim is to get as low as you can on carbs and sugar even if there is some margin for error, I would avoid fruit for the duration of your diet, you say this is day one.

Margin for Error
i.e onions are higher in carbs than I thought and I didn't take that into account when calculating a Keto meal.
SO even though I was not doing it correctly the effect was I was still eating a very low cab meal.
And managed to achieve the results I was looking for.

Apple Cider Vinegar is reported to help with lowering bg and weight loss, I drink it because why not.
(If that helps with that part of the question.);)
:bag:

Yeah i thought so
No apples for a while then
Im trying to stop my sugar and carb cravings really as even now, half way through the day i am so gagging for a sugar fix of some sort

I would advise you lower carb intake gradually rather than fixing a date and going cold turkey. I did something similar and suffered carb flu (also known as keto flu). It was extremely discomforting and I almost gave up the whole idea a few times. Carb flu is as its name suggests, a feeling like flu, weakness, mood swing, hot and cold sweats but no infection. Nasty. It did not last long but I remember it as though it was yesterday. Take it steady.

Some vegetables are more carby than others generally those grown under ground are more carby than those that grow above ground,

What veg? Sorry for all the questions but the thing about the apple kind of made me wonder if you were prepared for this.
Mixed home veg so its broccoli, cauliflower, and some times spouts and tomatoes.
I know veg has a certain amount of carbs/sugar so i guess im not on total zero

I have a small hard apple a day. I look at the carb content on the packaging and it’s 11g carb.

It doesn’t spike me at all.

We are all different so it’s best to test, test, test your blood glucose levels before and 2 hours after.

Zero carb is usually seen as having only animal products hence your question about apples raised some warning flags.
Indeed all veg have some carbs but the one's you are having are at the lowest end so should be fine.

Stevie, one of your previous posts says you’re taking Gliclazide. If you still are you need to keep a very close eye on your blood sugars. If you’re dropping your carb intake dramatically. You risk going hypo.

At tbe beginning the paramount aim should be to empty the liver of its fat stores. As we know, fructose goes straight to the liver to be stored as fat prolonging the time it takes to address this. If I had known this at the start of my LCHF changes I would have given up all fruit, especially in juice form, for a few weeks to start the process which can have an effect in as little as a few days. I would then have reintroduced (a little) fruit by way of berries and tested to see how my body was reacting. I am coming up to my first anniversay of dx, I tested an apple with cheese not so long ago and still saw raised bg level.
As you say, we are all different.

Can you explain why you are eating every 3 hours? For good BG control it is not a good idea as you will still have raised levels from your last meal when you eat again, and the poor old pancreas is working too hard for too long. Either 1, 2 or 3 meals evenly spaced per day is recommended.

As @Rachox asked , are you still on Gliclazide? If so you need to be very careful or you could end up in hypo territory.

Carbs are addictive. It is not easy. Being on Gliclazide means you must make any changes to your diet at a slow and steady pace and test a little more than you are used to. Your thirst is probably down to your body trying to get rid of excess glucose. I suggest you do a lot more reading before making any more changes.

Im not thirsty i just am trying to drink plenty of water and keep my self hydrated

First thing to check is your bg levels to make sure this isn't a real response and your need sugar.

BUT if that is not the case then since your not even half way through day one, you have to assume it's an emotional response "I can't have is so I want it." :meh:

It might be a wiser choice to take today as day one of cutting back on carbs and sugar and keep cutting back gradually instead of trying to do it all in one go. There is nothing wrong with taking baby steps, as long as there in the right direction.

I think everyone here will agree with your decision and wants to support you in cutting down on the sugar and carbs, just remember Rome wasn't built in a day.;)
