I bought hot cross buns, and Chelsea buns at Lidl on Friday - but they were for my husband.
I am quite surprised at my resistance.
I bought protein rolls for myself - I eat them with meat or eggs or fish, eating them slowly so I don't get tempted to eat two.

Well I bought some Sainsburys 'Taste the Difference' Hot X Buns. They are 36.5 gms of carbs per bun. I didn't test before I ate them, but I'm usually around 5.5. 2 hours after eating I was at 8.2, after 3 hours down to 7.4. This morning my fbg was 5.4 . So not too bad I think.
@Prem51 I had similar results - Hot X bun and later on an Easter Biscuit from the local baker and my BS went to 8.2 at 2 hours, down to 6.4 at 3 hours and 5.3 this morning so not too bad for me either!

@Brunneria I'm down in Cornwall this and completely forgot to get organised with these LC beauties. Egged on by my grandson, who usually won't share his chocolate (it's for your own good, Pappy!), I had the thin half of a HXB, toasted on the Aga and clarted with Cornish butter. Tested 2 hours later - 4.8. Sweet!

The M&S mini ones are 19.7g carb per bun so half of one about 10g

Much to my own surprise, I have resisted all hot cross buns this year! I did however succumb to the following:

A pain au raisin from a Breton baker at the market... the bits with the fruit were nice, but the pastry-heavy bits were boring

Dark Toblerone - amazingly sweet compared to the 85% chock I've got used to

1/4 of a shell of a Cadburys Easter egg..... urgggh.... so sweet, not very nice....l but strangely compelling. I had to make myself stop.

What have I learned?

I don't need cake, or chocolate..... and most ordinary goodies are now actually far too sweet. However, my lemon and blueberry keto mug cake (coconut flour, sweetened with erithrytol) was very nice.

Back to sugar-free for me.

Well, I surived an attack by the Easter Bunny. We were descended upon by my family of Carboholic Cormorants for most of last week, and it was impossible to stem the flow of 'goodies and treats' that ensued. For example, on Easter Snnday, I started with my morning meds, e,g, Metformin but no other bgl lowering meds. I then had an extended breakfast comprising 2 x Hot X buns (on topic) then 2 slices of toast and marmalade, followed later by 2 generous chunks of chocolate fudge brownies. Then I had a whole bar of hazlenut peppered chocolate, then a small and a large Easter choc egg. Then I took my evening med 1x Gliclazide, and tested my pre-meal bgl. It was 7.4 mmol/l/

then we had our main meal which was roast leg of lamb, roast spuds, roast parsnips, honey glazed carrots, and Celeriac mash (the LC part). Then pudding was a cheesecake slice with clotted cream. As you can see I did not spare the horses. Rather be hanged for a horse than a rabbit. My 2hour PP reading was 6.1 (rechecked later at 6.1 again) and my 4hr PP was 4,9. Whoopee !!!! This mornings waking bgl was 5.1.

So I am doing well on my diet . 18 months ago I was peaking above 32, with fasting bgl in the low 20's, then I went LCHF and now I have seen off Xmas and Easter in style. Resolved, maybe, cured? = No, Not yet, but better. My GP phoned me a couple of days ago and wants me to drop the Glic completely. I think I will split the dose since my midday levels are running higher than I want, and I need to replace the morning Glic I dropped at Xmas

So I seem to be not too bad with Hot X buns

I had the last hit X bun toasted this morning - pre was 6.5, after 1 hour 7.2 and after 2 hours 5.4 so I may repeat the experiment next year.

Those are great numbers for that food and those meds. Brilliant!

A violin played well brings tears of joy, but when played badly produces tears of pain and anguish.

OK I just met my Nemesis.

Today I had no Hot X buns, but I did have 2 slices of toast as usual. Then I had a whole packet of Cadbury Mini Eggs and half the associated choc egg. My Pre meal reading was 15,9. Then I had a low carb meal, and my 2hr PP was 6.1. and just now my 4hr PP was 4.2. I think this proves a couple of points (1) That a 54% sugar content snack is not good news for me. and (2) the sugar high proves that Resolved is definitely not CURE. Damnit!

Interesting that 1 Gliclazide tab dropped me by 11 mmol/l in one sitting (i,e, no exercise at all)

Just to give an update now that the Easter binge results are in and plotted. Before Hot X bun Armageddon, my daily bgl was averaging 6.6 mmol/l. During the binge week it rose up to 7,3 Now it has dropped to 5,5, but to be fair it is not a week gone by yet, and anyway today I devoured a whole large bar of chocolate which will take that up a bit. I shall have to sit on my cravings a bit harder.

Considering what I ate with such gay abandon over the festive time, I am pleasantly surprised at how well my body coped. Shows me that Xmas binge results were not a fluke,

Edit to add: just tested following that 200g hazlenut chocbar, and although it pushed my pre meal up to 9,0, my daily average overall was only 5,8 {up from 5,5 yesterday}. So I am sitting here with hypo symptoms, needing a carby pick me up to make the fuzzies go away,
