My 18 month old son has had 2 hypo's in 2 weeks, he had his first ever one at 2 days old, then nothing till 2 weeks ago.
He woke up, not well at all, soon went downhill, in which we rang an ambulance, his sugar levels were 0.9, he was on a drip for 24 hours, sent home with a glucose monitor and told to test when symptomatic.
A week later and he woke up with sugars at 1.3, went to the hospital and they said just to monitor him at home, didn't get over 3.3 that day and the next day didn't get over 3.6.
I have been monitoring him everyday since, he is usually around 4.4 but has had a couple of spikes of 8 then drops back to around 4 about an hour later.
He has more tests on march 9th, as all his previous tests came back clear.
Does this sound like RH to anybody?

It's so hard as he can't tell me how he is feeling, so I'm constantly thinking about it and watching what he eats!

Any help would be grateful x

Hi,

I am so sorry to read this. You must be very worried, and it must be very distressing.

What have the hospital and your doc said? Have they offered any guidance or suggestions, and are they working towards a diagnosis?

I'm afraid I wouldn't venture to offer any suggestions. I have RH myself, but I know it is often a different condition in children, and needs different handling. About the only thing I do know is that the majority of RH cases in children go away by themselves, in time. But I couldn't even venture to guess how long it takes, or why.

Have you done any googling specifically on RH in children?

In your situation I would push hard for a referral and a proper investigation by your health team. I would also be wracking my brain for any common feature that may have triggered the hypos, to discuss with the team.

Hope that helps!

I have heard and read about childhood hypoglycaemia.
It is more common than you can imagine and most children will grow out of it!
Do keep an eye on him. The hospitals are usually good for paediatric hypoglycaemia.

Best wishes.

Do let us know how you get on!

Hi Sam's mum, You are going through a horrid ordeal with your boy and it is too long before they see the youngster in hospital. I would ring the consultants secretary and explain how beside yourself with worry you are and explain how serious the problem is. It may help get him seen sooner. If this doesn't work I would try my mp and see what he/she might do. With a sick child no action is too big. regards D.

It does sound like its possibly childhood hypoglycaemia @Sam'smum242 Have you been given dietary advice in the meantime?
