Not getting any help, not sure what to do!

Hello, I was diagnosed as type 2 around 4 years ago. That was the last time I had a HbA1c test, since then I have had the eye test yearly but nothing else. In the last few weeks I have noticed my symptoms getting worse extremely thirsty, headaches, nausea, blurred vision, my bloods are ranging between 12.8 to 17.9. I tried to get into the doctors last week and they couldn't give me an appointment. I managed to see a diabetic nurse last night, she has arranged an appointment for blood tests next Monday with a follow up appointment the following Tuesday. She said she couldn't do a test then because it wouldn't be sent off until today and if my symptoms get worse I should call for an urgent doctors appointment or go to a and e. I feel like I'm making a fuss but am also very worried! Is it OK to wait until then?
 
Hello, thank you for your reply I appreciate it. I haven't brrn testing my blood sugars, doctor said I didn't need too, I clearly realise now that I do! When he first tole me I was diabetic, he told me to Google it regarding diet, I did and went back to him with lchf and he had a fit! Told me not to do it but didn't tell me what else to do. I have recently been looking at the fast800 diet and won't be asking my doctor what he thinks. I find the NHS generally unhelpful and I used to work for them!

In your position I would push for an urgent appointment, and if your GP can't do it I would be going to A&E. Your quoted BG levels are high - I'm assuming this is from your own fingerprick testing(?) - have you changed anything in your diet recently? Has anyone tested you for ketones?

This may all be OK but I do think it should be checked as soon as possible.


Incidentally, I would be surprised (but it's not impossible) if your HbA1c has not been done for four years - there are numerous targets around diabetes for GPs including HbA1c levels and statin prescription.

The doc threw a fit about LCHF, but didn't bother to point you in the "right" direction, whatever he might've thought that was?! Wonderful. You've found already that testing is a must, if you want to stay on top of things. Test before a meal and 2 hours after the first bite, you're aiming for a rise of no more, and preferably less than 2.0 mmol/l. And do cut carbs if you see a chance to, see whether that makes a difference, because you are high, and you don't want to be. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html should help get you started on that. Keep in mind, as blood sugars fluctuate, your vision will too, so don't get expensive specs, as your prescription 'll change as your blood sugars bounce around. A pair of cheap reading glasses should tide you over until things stabilise.

A lot of us are pretty much on our own when it comes to diabetes... I'm sorry you've been left to your own devices like this though. Four years, it boggles the mind...

You say you feel like you are causing a fuss , you are definitely not causing a fuss ! it's your body and you need to look after it and if that means kicking arses then go and kick some , them blood sugars are high and need looking at , good luck :)
