not managed diabetes - best meal replacement shakes to buy?

You could go into a big chemist like Boots with a notebook and write down the sugar or carb content of all the shakes (or the 4 main ones ) on display; or you could more easily look it up online.
If you want to try to lose your diabetes by losing the weight from your pancreas and liver you could try the Newcastle diet but you have to be very determined - it is hard work; and also you have had T2 since 2012 which is rather a long time. It works best if you have had T2 for 6 years or less.http://www.ncl.ac.uk/press/articles/archive/2017/09/type2diabetesisreversible/

Just a hint - I have never been -knowingly - an uncontrolled diabetic. I have normal numbers for BG and Hba1c. My breakfast this morning was the last shreds of the leg of lamb I cooked on Monday and a tomato. Later I will eat some sausages.
I did have a cup of coffee but I will have to find it and heat it up as I can be rather forgetful about consuming things these days - I am never hungry and even need to prompt myself to drink water.

Picked up prescription for competact on Friday. Looked on internet and now s.Scared to take them. pioglitazone has bad reputation for bladder cancer.
I am surprised you were not offered Metformin. That is a tried and tested med that is usually recommended as the first to prescribe for people who are newly diagnosed. I would share your caution about other diabetes drugs. Metformin will not bring your bg down a huge amount, but IMO every little counts. It is cutting carbs that will have the most effect.

Well I haven't taken the tablets. I have taken blo

Ooops, pressed a wrong button. Not taken the tablets at all. Over the last two weeks I have tried different foods and did not buy any shakes, as most seem to have a lot of sugar in them. Before, my finger prick tests (not the HBac) have been 13, 14, 15 and once even 19.1 the highest. Over the last 2 weeks they have been 9, 10 and 11 (a 12 with bananas). Tonight was an 8.8. I know these are still not where they should be but definite progress as far as I am concerned. I look like a strawberry - been having these with yoghurt instead of Weetabix for breakfast (thanks for the tip) Thank you for your help and encouragement. I know the tablets would probably have got me down low by now but not happy they had been withdrawn in some countries and the possible side effect of bladder cancer really scared me.

Very well done Christine, progress already and food is so much more fun than shakes!
Do you have a follow up appt with your nurse? I’m sure he/she will be pleased with your results once they’ve got over you not taking the tablets!

I'm a bit shocked that you'd eat bananas - don't give your doctor any help in trying to force medication on you - I can remove temptations just by imagining the doctor looking gleeful as my results are read out and he reaches for his prescription pad....

Excellent progress, you have done well. Can you give us some idea of what you eat a day, and maybe we could suggest easy ways for you to make changes which might help?
