so its 9:28pm and im feeling tired and just have no energy. blood sugar levels are saying hi to me and ketones are creeping up (currently at 0.7) and i just thought "what am i doing? i dont want to be feeling sick or exhasuted tomorrow so i took 15 units of novorapid(will take more after i check in an hour), and i also took my levemir a little early 24 units. i rejoined slimming world last week and i want to lose weight but i dont want to be cheating this time

Don't know your ratios but don't correct every hour. You can easily overcorrect injecting too often. Drink lots of water as it helps.
Hope youre feeling better soon. Being that high can be tough

Hey be careful please test and check your ok ?

I know how it feels to just want to want to fight this, seize the moment though and take control, a big shot of novo could drop you quickly so check every 30 minutes and take care ok ?

i am on set doses 10u before breakfast, 12u before lunch and 14u before dinner. i havent quite taken any today and iv been comfort eating thats why they are so high. should i just keep testing then til they come down to a safer level.

i feel lousy, just want the insulin to kick in now

How long have you been diabetic? Have you tried carb counting?
Comfort eating is very difficult to tackle but you still need to take insulin. Don't take corrections more often than every 2 hours (or even longer to be honest) and don't correct with massive amounts of insulin if you don't know your ratios.

i have it almost 14years now. i have never done carb counting before. i asked about it at my last appointment but i was told i have to wait and see the dietition and i could be waiting a little while. how do i know what my ratio is

Do you know how much you will drop after taking 1 unit? That's your correction ratio. Here is a link with a simple formula but you need to experiment a bit to discover your ratios

Please push for dafne course. You shouldn't be taking set doses of insulin after 14 years. Carb counting will give you more flexibility and better control. Have a look at the type1 forum. There is lots of useful advice.

Sadly with the NHS you need a good size 10 boot to make anything happen, press them for the DAFNE course it will help you a lot, in the meantime try reading 'think like a pancreas' or Dr Bernstein. Knowledge is power so knowing how to calculate your insulin sensitivity, ratios and doses will help you master this more effectively, keep checking your bg, hope your ok ?

i live in dublin so am not sure if dafne would be the same her or perhaps under a different name. i checked the link ewelina posted and working it out from that it is 1u lowers my levels by 1.6mmol. am now at 27.8

Hiya! Dafne is the same here in Ireland, I took part in the programme about eighteen months ago and have never looked back :) Ask at your diabetic clinic!

good news @diabetic12yrs
was worrying reading through this tonight-- glad you have things back in single figures, hope you can get a DAFNE course sorted soon !!!

I'm going to try for another good day today. Would it be ok to post my blood sugar levels here at the end of the day. Just til I get on track. I will phone my clinic today and ask about dafne

of course you can post your numbers here -- i will automatically get tagged when you post anything on this thread and will reply to you as soon as I can
keep your chin up and just work on today :)
