Somebody help me out here
I am really trying to get to grips with sugar level and what I eat, last night I went to bed on a 6.7 feeling really pleased with myself as thats the lowest its been in the last fortnight. I wake up this morning and first thing I did was check again and its 7.6. As I dont suffer with sleepwalking to the fridge I dont understand how this can be.

Things have gone right out of the window today as we went out for dinner and despite choosing carefully from the menu I asked for a Coke Zero coz thats the safe bet, certain I was mugged off with regular coke as next time I checked a couple of hours later reading is 18!!!!! Oh well in the mornin it will be back to workhouse rations of gruel I supose

Promise to keep trying

Dave,

It does look like you may have been given full sugar coke, it's been mentioned on the forum time and time again that people have had similar experiences when eating out.

Hi,

Like Nigel says it looks like you were given full sugar coke instead of coke Zero, which would explain the huge rise!

Also your morning reading of 7.6 from 6.7 at night is normal. It's quite fine to rise or fall a little bit overnight so don't worry i'm sure your not sleep walking to the kitchen :)

It's something called the 'Dawn Phenomenon'. As you're waking up your liver pushes out a bit of glucose to get you energised and ready to face the day. It happens to a lot of people, including me. I don't know if non-diabetics get it, but it wouldn't surprise me if they do.

My lowest reading of the day is almost always mid-afternoon.

I've found that, as I've got better control of my bg and they've generally got lower, my morning ones have got lower too - but they're still usually the highest!

Don't beat yourself up over it - keep on with the lower carbs, and good luck! By the way, gruel is full of carbs - eat chicken instead

Quite simply, your Bg levels will never remain the same. They will vary second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day....... You don't have to eat or drink anything to have Bg levels change, up or down. It is the normal metabolism of your body which reacts to a number of variables. Stress, heat, exercise, illness and many other things to name a few.

It could also as Viv says be a touch of DP, a normal response in most people........just don't ever think they will remain static. The body doesn't work that way.

One other thing is that you say you chose carefully from the Menu ? What exactly did you eat ?
