I’d say you need to go back to your Dr or nurse and discuss the possibly inaccurate HbA1cs and ask for the alternative test, the fructosamine one. Then you’ll know where you are. This uncertainty is stressful for you and you need a definitive answer. Even if it comes back that you definitely are diabetic you’ll know what you’re dealing with.

Well done on your huge HbA1c reduction. I’m assuming as you’ve come off your meds that you are low carbing. It sounds like you maybe need a bit more fat with your meals to help you feel fuller for longer. Butter on your veggies or cream on your berries or in an after dinner coffee perhaps. I can easily resist snacking in the morning between breakfast and lunch, but like you get peckish around 4pm. I have a very low carb snack (Sugar free jelly or a high protein snack bar) with a black coffee to tide me over til dinner.
Hi @Rachox which jelly do you use.

I don't mind if I am diabetic I have come to terms with it. So moving forward will my finger tests also not be true readings as well? Will it only ever be a fructosimime test that I will have to have

Yes, I agree with @Rachox You can make an appointment and take with you some evidence of your finger prick tests before and after eating (your meter and somethings written down) I do not recall anyone on the forum having a Fructosamine test. Indeed, I asked once at my own surgery about this and was told "we don't do these". Failing that, then an OGTT. These two tests will be hopefully give you a better diagnosis and lead to correct treatment. I would do this today if I were you.

In fact, having thought about it, the OGTT would be the better test for you as it will show what your body is doing both before and after the glucose.

I buy the Hartleys 10 cal ready made individual jellies. Not only are they low calorie but very low carb, some flavours are just 0.2g carbs per pot.
Thanks, a brand I know and references are always a good starting point.

Ok so I was told no medication and no testing for two months if I have false readings how would they ever of known. Would they have just said I was cured?

Probably. But you know differently, so keep testing, keep records, and make that phone call.

Really depressed now can anyone tell me if finger testing is accurate and what to expect moving forward will it always be glucosamine tests to get true readings

I think I’m right in saying finger prick tests are accurate. @Bluetit1802 has implied that by suggesting you take your meter results to any appointments. Hopefully she will confirm this for you.

I think your finger prick tests will be as accurate as anyone else's as it is just a snapshot of what you are at the time. The HbA1c is an average over the previous 2 to 3 months and relies on your red blood cells living for the standard time of approximately 120 days. In cases of severe anaemia, this isn't the case.

The Fructosamine test is similar to the HbA1c but only looks at the previous 2 or 3 weeks average. The OGTT is another snapshot test.

I rang the doctors and I am just waiting. If it helps the blood I was getting done was planned for 8 weeks after being off meds

Have been testing throughout day and spaced out my eating. Was 7.9 around 10am then 3 hours later 10.4 then 15 mins later after drinking water 7.1 now and hour and half later 6.3

If you are just testing randomly it won't help you to help your doctor discover the problem. You would be better testing immediately before you eat and again 1 hour and 2 hours after your first bite of food. Keep a food diary and record these levels alongside the food/drinks. You can then show this diary to your doctor, and he will see that your levels do not correspond to your last 2 HbA1c tests, so he should offer you at least an OGTT if not a Fructosamine test. Also, take your meter with you when you see him so he can see the historical data on it.

I have only just started testing again as I was told not to so there is not really any data. I just thought the fact that I am coming down to that reading with out meds was good. Also my fingers are sore and full of holes how do people text so much all of the time

Perhaps you have the setting too high on your lancet device? Are you rotating your fingers so you eventually use all of them but not as often? If your hands are really warm (hot water helps) the blood will come out better and need less squeezing.

There is some data from when you started testing again - every little bit helps. :)

If your next blood test (the one that is 8 weeks from when you stopped the meds) is another HbA1c, you really do need to discuss changing this to an OGTT or Fructosamine test. It is highly likely it will be another inaccurate one.

Are you pricking the sides of your fingers rather than the centre of the pad? I was told it was less painful, which I’ve found to be so. Not everyone does but worth a try. Unless that’s what you’re already doing of course!

If you've had HbA1c tests at the same time as having pernicious anaemia, I don't see how the results can be reliable at all. I really don't think there is any way to know whether you have diabetes or not unless you have the GGT (Glucose Tolerance Test). It's a fairly simple test that your doctor should be able to request because you have pernicious anaemia, full stop.

I also don't see the point in waiting 8 weeks to have the GTT. Does your doctor know you have pernicious anemia? (I only ask because sometimes we might see two doctors and they don't always have the same information about other conditions we have.) A good doctor should just order the test now. If you ask and are told to wait 8 weeks, IMO you should ask another doctor to help.

I may be out of step with what others here are saying, but if your fingers are sore from all the home testing, do you even need to be doing it? Random tests during the day won't tell you much. If I were you I would do a fasting test in the morning once a week, at least until you've had the GTT.

A random blood glucose test (just one) can be useful for showing if a person has very high BG, eg more than say 13, or 15. 7s and 10s are an issue if you have a confirmed diagnosis and are working to get your levels under control, but I think in your situation these tests aren't giving you useful info.

Hope this helps.
