This is my rant.
After Covid restrictions were lifted I started getting dizzy spells so phoned surgery and got an telephone appointment (helpful). Doctor phoned and I explained and was given an appointment (can't send a photo) Checked what doctor had put on my record - no diabetes (I have been in remission for many years). Doc looked in my ear and said that I had impacted wax. Docs do not deal with that anymore, you have to get someone private to do that. Lady in the village came and told me there was no impacted wax, what was the doctor talking about. When I questioned him about my diabetes he bought my blood tests up and was following them down with his finger. He looked at me and said 'how have you done that' told him I low carb and he snorted and poo pood my results.

I do not have diabetes
Metformin is a standard go to prescription med that the doctors go to.
And it is useful in many says especially the liver.
But the problem many encounter is the side effects.
So many need the SR type, but have to go through the cheap options variety of the drug before finally getting to it and settling the side effects.
You can understand it, but why, as in my case, being lactose intolerant, taking aspirin that is enteric and lactose, sugar free would a doctor prescribe a drug that doesn't have this? Not look at your health history?
Not be ***** with asking if you have intolerance or an allergy.
And I feel sorry those, given the cheap meds, and not getting an immediate response from a surgery or God forbid a dsn, that you can't see.
As I have posted many times, most GPS are taught about diabetes from the text books, but most do not have the training in endocrinology or its treatment. Hence dsns!
But they only get the training which is very limited and can be so damaging or even bad for you.
Most cannot diagnose the differences in the types, or the rare conditions, that can be non diabetic.
The need in so many to see a specialist, to get the tests necessary for a true diagnosis. For the need of a tailored treatment regime, is beyond the capacity of our NHS and the number of specialists we have.
Diabetes of all types cost a great deal but not getting the right diagnosis and treatment is costing so much more.

Way too many just read out of the Beano/dandy from 1952 telling you generic stuff that is so far out of date the edges have curled up and pages yellowed!

I got don't have butter/Fat/Animal types etc but have Veg oils and so on! Well the human body can deal with/burn animals fats very well while veg stuff it can't and fat is fat no matter what same calories etc plus the other thing with veg oils is they oxidise which isn't so good for us!.
Then they go on about Fruits! Apart from the types of sugars in them they are also very heavy on the livers ability to process/convert so if have a liver issue your adding fuel to the fire.
Then they go on about Meat have chicken! Well decent red meat has everything you need to live well on plenty of protein, Iron and low carb!
Then i get your portions "Rice/Pasta/Potatoes" yet when i say i don't eat Pasta or rice it's like you have committed a cardinal sin! "your eyes are going to burn in your face".

But much of this ancient snake oils stuff is being exposed there is quite a bit on Y tube about not only diabetes but also hidden sugars/Chemicals and bad fats and so on.
Plus dismissing the high carbs diets they all said we should follow!.
Make your own thoughts up? But most likely not only why Diabetes is so rampant! but also Cancers!
I do pick n choose who i trust more on subjects.

Never mind the 1952 Beano or Dandy, My preference is a 1949 cookery book which records a diet for diabetics. It's pure low low carb! Wonder what happened to change things to the Eatwell plate..

Lovastatin happened. There was a big push by drug research companies to find a solution for controlling high plasma Cholesterol. This discovery was seen as the first line defence against high cholesterol. With this new drug came the profits. And the money rolled in with an annual profit of over 1 billion bucks US . Fats were demonized. Low fat diets were the only way. So now we have synthetic statins like atorvastatin that are pushed at us. Low carb, high fat diets are a threat.

Stand your ground, @filly! Give no quarter! :hilarious:

Well done for not being dictated to. It never ceases to amaze me as to the approach taken by some DN's, peddling their nonsense despite evidence to the contrary being right before their eyes.

Chance would be a fine thing! I had blood tests last week, 6 months on from my previous round of tests. Hba1c down to 29, puts me in remission, plus improved results across the board. Within normal ranges on every result now, which is a drastic change to 10 months ago.

So, you might wonder, what did my DN say about this? Nothing. Absolute silence. I still haven't heard from her 9 days later. It annoyed me for the first few days, then I had a mental breakthrough and the rage subsided instantly - their advice has been zero help so far, literally nothing they've said has been useful or shaped my approach. I've done it all off my own back, with the help of this forum, so why even bother giving them a second thought?

Anyway, keep up the great work and be proud of your achievements, Filly!
I had my second set of bloods done in June. I had a call which I missed 10 days later. When I tried to ring the surgery back I was told I couldn’t and had to wait for the nurse to get in touch with me. So far it’s been 8 weeks and still nothing.
I know my results by going on the nhs app. It states significant improvement. Discuss statins. So far I have refused all medication and obviously not that urgent for me to be on statins.
