Has anyone been offered the opportunity to begin using the Omnipod 5 pump in England next week?

I’ve heard that hospitals are offering it, despite NICE not having approved it; or at least not made an official announcement yet. Suggests to me that diabetes teams know the outcome of NICE’s recommendations.

I have a pump review next week. They have given me no info on alternative pumps/ upgrades despite phoning and waiting years for a review. Told they would make me a follow up appointment if 1 not enough.
Just would have liked to know any options. Currently user of Omnipod Dash and Libre 2 . Hoping to get some info on here.

I don't know for your area, but if I was in your position I'd research tandem slim x2 and medtronic 780g, as these seem to be the ones that are mentioned most often in addition to the Omnipod.

I'm not saying you will have that choice, but at least you'd have the info if you are.

No informed I wasn’t due this. Not till January unable to tell me what would be available as they don’t currently know yet.

Hi, interested on this device omnipod, got a dummy sample. Not with diabetic nurse team so will have to ask gp to do referral. Just hope they have now enough funding to help other type 1 and or promote or know more about the device. Was told by a friend at my gp that unlikely to get it without the diabetic nurse team recommend it. As I manage ,with hard work, my BS well and use libre sensor (do swimming) , unlikely to get it . I'm going to try stem cell therapy abroad soon so would like to try the new devices before.

Asked about any courses for type 1 , diverted to saying will put in me in a course on "carb counting " general for all diabetics , so my region still not offering NHS "dafne" course for type 1.
I did some private expensive treatment in mumbai xmas time, was an experience !, but will see how effective in 2-3 months. At the moment im having to take less than a quarter of my insulins . I'll post more info on stemcell treatment abroad thread.
If any Adult has recieved the omnipod device from gp nhs please post.

To my knowledge all NHS funded pumps, whether hybrid closed loop like Omnipod 5 or standalone pumps, can only be prescribed by your specialist diabetes clinic and any application will most probably involve recommendation reports by your endocrinologist and the DSN team. I have recently been prescribed an Omnipod DASH standalone pump - approval took 11 months from the initial application. The only involvement by my GP practice is for the ongoing prescriptions for insulin vials and back-up insulin pens.

Hi all, I went on to Omnipod 5 from dash at the end of last year. It's a slightly retrograde step, I'm on libre 2 and don't qualify for the Dexcom kit so no closed loop.

I saw my consultant at the beginning of November and explained why I wanted to move over to having a pump, specifically Omnipod 5. The entire team listened carefully to what I was saying and surprised me by agreeing it was a good idea. I thought I would have to fight for it. I have had to wait until the new year as the guidelines were changing and I would be eligible then for a pump. I get it in early February and I am very excited.
