I had no recollection of selecting the Lantus dosage and pressed the button. I was in a dilemma so I did a another injection with my usual dosage of six units. Of course now I\m worried about hypos.

My dinner was half a chicken breast in a little tomatoey casserole sauce and a little broccoli around 8.30 pm. At 10.30 pm I had two seeded oatcakes and now I am about to have a cup of tea.

Presumably I take a reading. When do I test and what number is safe to go to bed with?

i would set alarms and test throughout the night to be safe -- every hour

In your situation I'd probably want to go to bed no lower than 6 and I'd set an blood test alarm for every two hours to check that blood sugar wasn't dropping during the night...

Hi @asparagusp what time did you take your lantus ? Also how much quick acting have you taken to cover dinner ?

Personally if I had done the same then check before bed and set alarm for 12 and 3am.

Weeellllllllllll??

(& I'm serious.) you may find the danger zones twix 2&3am also 5to6am with a low possibly about 7..?? You may also trip out late morning & late afternoon if a "single doser" & not splitting it..
Just an educated guess..

But I'd be up all night if not good at waking on a low..? Keep the meter handy. Follow up fast acting carbs with something a little slower acting...

@himtoo 's answer is the safest bet.

I'm only on Lantus insulin and took it around 10.30 pm.

you asked for an opinion regarding what to do if you double take your does of lantus
if I did what you did -- I would do as I suggested
( it is not a quiz or a game )

you will do what you see as right...................
every answer you have had has suggested alarm setting and testing at varying times through the night.....

I won''t be able to sleep and to set alarms every hour will waken the neighbour above and below .....

It's a flip of the coin then between a nights peace for them.. Or a possible "eternity" for you.

I know what I'd chose!?! ;)

You don't know my neighbours. Anyway the anxiety of waking up even with an alarm will prevent me from sleeping anyway. If I test throughout the night then I have to stay awake. When I say I have no recollection maybe I have just taken a single dose. This has happened once before a while ago! Okay I shall take a reading at midnight and report back then. I just want to cry. I'm all on my own.

Just take em a bottle of one of your wines round in the morning as a "peace maker". You won't miss it!

It's worked with me after a wild party!

Do a test now and see what you get ? I wouldn't give a hoot about your neighbours, your health comes first so testing is vital.

Might be a good idea to get a small notepad and jot it down each time you take your shot to save it happening again.

Have done this a few times myself, don't beat your self up, changing how you do it in future will save you from doing it again though.

A funny answer to your suggestion! The neighbour below came upstairs to my flat on New Years Eve with a bottle of wine as a come on while his wife was away that night as they don't drink wine! I still have the wine! lol

Hi
I can understand your predicament. Can you stay awake all night and just keep testing? If not, do you have a good friend you can ring and ask to stay round there and have them check on you - I realise that's a hard thing to do. Otherwise, maybe you should pitch up at A/E and they can maybe monitor you?

I'm on my own too and, yes, it certainly does have difficult times, ie when ill etc. Personally, I can only suggest you keep testing during the night and, if that means being awake, then so be it. Maybe ask a friend round? Good luck

Thanks for your reply. I have no friends in London and really don't fancy getting to A and E. Did you notice that the last readings above taken at midnight are high so I would think that it;s unlikely to plummet too much. Would you agree?

Update - The reading at 1am is 11.0.

Thanks Mahola and for sure I am a woman and proudly so! Is it then safe with these two readings ie hypos won't occur tonight?

Update at 1 am my reading was down to 11.0. - still on the high side,

Bless you Mahola. Yes the readings are high but to be expected as my insulin leaked the previous night and I probably lost two units ..... higher fasting reading than normal plus anxiety and so on! A long story! I'll spare you it!.

So... how are you now? Give us an update until you feel absolutely safe and back to normal. I have both double dosed and just not taken any because I was afraid to double dose. Luckily I had just started injecting and was on a very low dose when I double dosed. I stayed awake and tested and had anxiety highs also. I also slammed some chocolate milk which contributed to the highs. I have started putting my needle into a pill box for each dose and taking a deep breath and being very mindful to inject just after I dial the dose. I fill my pill box every week so I know that I have taken all my doses for the week.
