I tried to find more information about what can be considered as best glucose level on keto and how does it vary from day to day depending on what you had for food.
I have never checked my glucose levels before but yesterday I was 83 mg/dl, today i am at 96 mg/dl. I almost had same type of food both days. Not sure as why my glucose would rise so much. Will keep on monitoring for this month.

Sleep anxiety stress illness can all also affect bgl not just food. Also testing on waking, before and 2hrs after food will give different results. Often the fasting will be the highest when eating ideal foods if you have a dawn phenomenon. 13mmol isn’t really so much different. 2hrs after should ideally be no more than 2mmol higher than before eating, the closer to pre meal the better.

I don't have dawn phenomenon, yesterday before night my sugar was 82mg/dl and morning was 83 mg/dl,
my problem was always post meal sugar spike even before keto. Though will monitor more closely now. What do you think should one target for ideal blood sugar on keto?
I am guessing anywhere between 75mg/dl to 85mg/dl.

It can have many reasons, but I would not consider that a worrying difference as a one off. For example eating too much protein, which your body can turn into glucose could cause it. I even get a little bump like that if I go for a walk before breakfast.
Whether on keto or not, I would think the 'ideal' level would be the same. Keto can help get to that 'ideal' level, which will differ by person.

I don't know much about keto so this might be a stupid question. But do you want your bg to be lower than that of healthy non diabetic people?

No. Getting bg at a healthy non-diabetic level would be ideal. Depending on your situation, ketogenic diet can help lower the level mainly by lowering carb intake. Intermittent fasting can help here as well. There are urine strips and blood meters (what I use) that can track the level of ketones in your blood.

Urine strips are a rough measure in the early days, any colour change is ketosis. Once fat adapted these often fail to change giving the false impression you are no longer in ketosis. It actually can mean you are effectively using all the ketones produced and are no longer peeing the wasted ones out. Blood ketones are a far more accurate measure. (But much more expensive)

That's what I thought, but ts wonders about a 'high rise' to 96mg/dl, a perfectly normal number. She also suggests that rising over 85 is not optimal. That's why I asked.

108 is 6 mmol/l which I'd be happy with at any time and would try to be below so anything sub 100 mg/dl sounds pretty good to me..
Your 96 (5.33) to 83 (4.6) look pretty near perfect. a rise from 83 to 896 could simply be meter discrepancy so don't fret please.

I have been reading various article on internet suggesting that ideal sugar to be around 85 not from research h papers though. That's why I asked what here think what does most guys think blood glucose to be a ideal one, because in ketosis our blood ketones are high we don't want sugar to be high as well. And considering 96 to be near 100 I was bit unhappy.

True after being keto on 10 day my strips are showing very mild amount of ketones, just two days back I was on high purple mark.

Yes may be one day off. Will check protien concept next time, currently I am in ketosis but I don't measure protien or fat. I just don't eat carbs much.
I was bit relaxed in my approach thinking may be my body could handle more protien. Doesn't look like that.

I would not even draw that conclusion from it. Glucose levels can change quite a bit during the day. The swings can be different on different days, and will swing depending on many factors. Your body will also have a store of glycogen, which it will release when it senses you may need extra glucose for energy usage, whether physical or mental. This is all normal.

Have you looked at your HbA1c level, as that is a ~6 week average that can indicate your overall food and beverage quality intake. 5.2% (33) is what I strive for, and if it creeps up I know that I need to adjust my diet. Worrying too much might also spike glucose levels. :)

That might show that you are now using the ketones for your energy needs, which is good.

Yup, I am quite happy about that. This is the first time I am in ketosis this long. Otherwise I used eat carb loaded meal after every 3 days of no carbs.

Haven't taken HBA1C yet since last time but I believe it will be really low.
