I am so frustrated with my high numbers. 20-24 daily for the past 3 months. I think insullin is not my friend. I take lantus and now I have added novo rapid to the picture. My numbers are not coming down no matter what ISO. I walk 30 minutes everyday and carb count. No sweets ever!! I just want to give up! Why are my numbers so high no matter what I take

Tell us what a typical meal is ... what a typical days food is.
Not so much how much just what it is.

Back to the doctor as those numbers are not good .... and I know you know it. Something needs correction whether it be the meds and / or the diet.

I wish you well Mike

And welcome to the best place on the planet for dealing with this stuff.
We're all diabetics so no need to worry.
Theres someone here who has been it done beat it got it going there coming back in despair out of despair.
This truly is the place you need to be right now .... every day.

My day consists of oatmeal for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, fruit for snack and a meat with greens for supper. No pasta no potatoes, occasionally basmati rice No fruit juices and no diet pops.

Fruit is the only suspect I can really see there.
Those readings are seriously bad and for so long.
You need a medical appointment today and if that isn't possible a visit to AnE might be in order.
At 27 I was whisked off in an ambulance.
Try drinking a lot of water today ... a lot to see if you can bring it down just a little.

Oatmeal is a no go for many. So are sandwiches (bread) and count in many fruits as they're straight sugar.

You're type 2? Just checkin' ....Mike

No bananas no grapes.
Best fruits are those that end in berry.
White bread white flour is a no no.

No white flour, all whole grains. Yes type 2
Doctor put me on victoza 8 months ago. First 4 months numbers came down to 9-10 and than past 3 months spiked up to 20-24 everyday. No reason that I can account for. It was like my body got used to it and now is not working so I stopped victoza and was put on Novo rapid 2 times a day along with lantus.
I don't want to give myself 6 needles a day plus finger pricks 3 times a day. There has to be something that can work for me

I forget oatmeal is a no no for many .... probably the majority.
I'm fine with it.
I stir in a large spoonful of coconut oil which adds fat and makes it very tasty but I also sprinkle some half spoon on it.

OK.

Something weird with this

Give us a rundown of a typical day for brekkie lunch and tea. You appear to be across the issues with regard to much of what you should not eat but a clearer picture will help a LOT :) Basmati rice isn't all that good either despite what you might have read. Some tolerate it. many can't.

Can do?

Still think it's maybe more meds than diet but that's a guess until we see what your day consists of in terms of eating. Time to jump on this

Mike :)

If consistently in the 20's (including night time) this indicates that your basal insulin is not enough.if your levels are increasing by more than 2.8 2-3 hours after a meal then this indicates that the novorapid is not enough?

As you have I believe only had novorapid added to your meds recently are you in contact with your diabetic team? Are you under GP or hospital? Have you had any guidance on altering your doses of insulin?

I can't eat anything with grains. Whole grains included. A pain but spikes me massively and now gives me indigestion.

@angel01, I know its difficult, but this is a great website and has lots of information to help you manage your diabetes. I struggled with my diabetes for years until I found this site. Now I follow a LCHF diet and my BS levels have come right down. Perhaps this is something you can look at. Looking at what you say you are currently eating, would push my BS's really high. So perhaps you could start by making some small changes and see if this could work for you too. Perhaps swap your breakfast for bacon and eggs, an omellette or something similar and have a salad with a good source of protein instead of a sandwich for lunch. Try this for a couple of weeks to see if it helps.

I'll keep my fingers crossed you find a way that works for you.

Would people who reply please note that the OP is on insulin and not all problems will be resolved with a change of diet.

I'd really recommend frequent testing - before and after every meal. And keep a detailed log of what you ate and how much. At least now, when your BG is not normal. You'll have much better idea what and how affects it - and it will be also easier for your doctor to figure out the best treatment for you. It might be you'll have to go to the intensified regime. Or it might be the doctor will change the type and/or dose of the insulin, or meds. Or that he'll recommend some changes in your diet. Maybe it will be much simpler than you think.

Anyway, getting things under the control and avoiding the diabetes complications should be a higher priority than a few painless pricks to your finger. And, you know - it doesn't mean it will be forever. Once your numbers are back to normal and stable, your treatment can be adjusted again.

speak to your doctor about correction doses, i had the same problem and correction doses helped with the problems

Those levels are extremely high, agree with Donnellysdogs that your basal insulin probably wants increasing, its best that you speak with your diabetes team who will advise you on adjusting your insulin doses.

Lot of people don't want to be cooking breakfast every morning ... I'm one of them so my way round it is a large bowl full of full fat plain yoghurt which I chuck nuts and berries in.
A little creamed coconut grated in too is good and I can away with a little honey to sweeten it.
Honey in small amounts seems to have little or any affect on my BS so long as I'm having it with fat.
I eat that much yoghurt these days I mostly make my own

See your doc urgent about meds.
