Oxycontin

I think I’ve stumbled onto a secret to lowering blood sugar levels. I had a bicycle accident last week fracturing 3 ribs and broken bone in my right hand.

To manage the pain I’m on slow acting Oxycontin and have some fast acting when needed. Since coming out of hospital my average BGL has dropped from 9 to 6, now that’s some drop.

Admittedly my body is working overtime on repairs but doubt the repairs are the result in drop in BGL. I don’t think Oxycontin is very good in the long term though as you need a lot of laxatives!!!!

Whilst high blood glucose is bad for health in the long run, it's not quite as hazardous as becoming hooked on a highly-addictive opioid painkiller.

Please could everyone reading this thread note that Oxycontin and Oxycodon are both classified as controlled drugs in the uk, and as with all drugs should never be used for any other reason than the intended use, in this case as a pain killer.

They are a controlled drug in Australia as well, and it's illegal to have them in your possession with out a script.

The oxycontin is a slow release version of oxycodone, which is instant relief for pain associated with palliative care not normal run of the mill pain.

I have not seen a drop in bgl since taking them, or using a controlled release Fentanyl 25 mcg patch either.

As the need for a laxative when taking them, I have been using a otc additive to drinks called OsmoLax which is available in pharmacies and supermarkets and is tasteless.
