Type of diabetes
Type 2
Treatment type
Insulin
April nearly a combined month in hospital due to pancreatitis. Lipid clinic say I must follow a low fat diet because the fat in my blood is extremely high.
Also fat irritates my pancreas I’m in pain right now.
Now I’m also diabetic type 2 very sensitive to ALL CARBS can’t even eat wholemeal or wholewheat foods like the dietician recommended.
My current medication
humlin 1 16units in the morning and 16units at night
Avtorstatin at night
And acid reflux tablet
Fenofibrate morning for pancreas
Ramipril high blood pressure
Sertraline depression
Vitamin D
Now my lipid specialist is going to put me on Creon
And Ezetimibe for high fats in blood.
Haven’t started these tablets yet as my own doctors haven’t received the E mail from the lipid clinic stating that I need to start these medications. So I’m having to chase the specialist which is stressful.
A week out of hospital right now and everything I’m eating is irritating my pancreas.
My sugars are staying high around 12-18mmol

I’m at my wits end I need advice and guidance from people on the forum.
Can anyone help with information on my new medication
Creon and Ezetimibe
Most importantly what sort of diet should I follow?
I’m struggling to know what to eat
As I now have to have low carb and low fat!!!!
I’m so sick of being sick.
My dietician is lovely but useless.
I getting so depressed I don’t want to go out.
Then I’m stressed out trying to figure out what to eat I’m like screw it then binge.
Im afraid that an eating disorder will be born out of my condition.
If you got to the bottom of this post thanks for sticking with me.

Has your insulin production been checked out as pancreatic damage can mean that you are not producing enough insulin so in your position I'd want to know whether your need for injected insulin is because you are T2 and insulin resistant or because you are T3c and not making enough of your own....

(Disclaimer, I am not a doctor and that is not a diagnosis of your situation.)

I am T1 and I am sensitive to carbs but I can inject for them. Have your team discussed how you can alter the amount of insulin so that your blood sugars normalise?

I'm going to tag in @miahara who I believe is taking creon and who was diagnosed T2 before T3c.

Lots of virtual hugs.

Hi @Nodemus , gosh you do seem to be having a lot of problems!
My overall impression is that you really need help and investigation of all your conditions. You need a test to assess how well your pancreas is functioning and how much insulin it is capable of producing and also if you need a revised insulin regimen.
The Atorvastatin you have been prescribed should help reduce fats in your bloodsteam - I take one tablet every morning. I've no knowledge regarding Ezetimibe.
Creon will help you digest your food and gain energy from it; I had lost an enormous amount of weight before starting creon and quickly regained it. I was told to try to avoid fatty foods as creon can't process them very well, however I do still eat some fatty food though try to limit the quantity. Creon MAY impact on the amount of insulin you require - I don't know this for certain but it seems logical if you get more nourishment from your food.
My gut feeling is that you are quite probably T3c as your pancreas isn't producing sufficient insulin, however I'm not a medic and I'm just guessing based on my own experience.
As far as diet goes, wholemeal/wholewheat breads are pretty high in carbs and will most certainly elevate you blood sugar; I do eat breads but have to balance my intake with insulin.
I wish you all the best on the road ahead - It will be bumpy, but you'll get there!

Edit: Here's a link to info about Ezetimbe - https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/ezetimibe/
