Hi
You need to register with your GP initally and ask for a referral to a consultant. Our GP's services do vary enormously....mine offer acupuncture, counselling, stress management courses free of charge...I live in Wales. Unfortunately services here are a postcode lottery, and I really don't know how your area is with it's services.....
Pretty much everything is free for diabetic type 1's, however funding for things such as pumps, again is a huge lottery postcode depending on hospitals consultants, nurses and PCT''s as well.
I love wehre i live as the service is absolutely superb, but having read so many posts by others on the website, I know there are a lot of people that do not get the fortune that I do.
Best thing to do is to ask locally to find out the best GP and try and register with that practice. Try to find out the best hospital for that area....there is research available on the websites.... and get a referral asap to a diabetic consultant and health team and explain what you had before. You may find that with funding here that GP''s try to limit blood test strips even on type 1's...however a consultant and dsn from hospital can over-ride the gp's by writing to them and instructing what medicines you need and must have.....
