Patient access

No, not those. What I had, and posted elsewhere a long time ago, wasn't from the NHS. It was from I think Public Health England when they published their guidelines to all GP surgeries in England, saying TEST RESULTS and coded consultation notes etc should be available on line by April 2016. Some surgeries first had to change their software to something suitable, some surgeries already had suitable software. Note there is a difference between test results and medical records.
Oh ok. I haven't seen that one, these were two I book marked when I was looking into getting access myself.

If I click on Medical History I get taken to medications first. Don't you get the menu I have in my screen shot, to select Test Results, Immunisations or Allergies?
Sadly no, @Rachox ! Actually I do get to see that I have no allergies, but under medical record I just get a list of meds. Same as you, @Daphne917 - so I'm entirely unsurprised to hear that your practice uses EMIS, just like mine! There must be a further 'layer' in the system I need to chip away at to get the access I want!

Oh no! :banghead::(

@Snapsy, @Daphne917, we use Emis at our surgery but layered over the top is Patient Access. It shouldn't matter what software they are using you should still be offered the opportunity to book appointments on line and view your test results. This should have been made available by all surgeries by April 2016. As I said above, the guidelines are available from www.england.nhs.uk. Good luck

After joining this forum I wrote a quick note to the practice manager asking for access to my test results. About an hour later someone phoned me and said she had set it up... and she had! The practice uses patient access, but they have stopped everyone making appointments on line (as too many were being wasted).

Sort of along the same lines here but when my practice nurse at the health centre takes my blood for the diabetic clinic they say the results go straight to the clinic and not back to them. Does this not seem strange? I'd of thought my GP would have details of all my blood tests.

I'm in London and am signed up for Patient Access. I had to fill in a form at the surgery, was given an access code and can now view all my test results for the last 5-6 years, all my medical notes, renew prescriptions etc. Blood test results usually appear within 48 hours. The graphs that show test results over time are a great innovation. I find this very useful and would encourage people to push their GP practices to upgrade. Practices have patient focus groups (or should have!) and this may be a route forward.
The downside is for people who do not have internet access or have limited computer skills and this would include some of the more vulnerable people in our society.

I have patient access and just asked the receptionist for access to blood test results too and she did it there and then. I guess they don't do it automatically in case some people don't want it. I thought it was your right to be able to see your own Medical records! Persevere !!

Have just written a Proper Letter (oh, those were the days.....) to the practice manager. Fingers crossed.
:)

I would be grateful if you would please grant me access to view my medical records and test results online under your Patient Access system.

I am already able to request my repeat prescriptions using EMIS, but since asking back in the summer for ongoing access to my test results online, the only additional information I am able to see is in fact a list of my medication (which I have already anyway, on the repeat prescription ordering screen), and allergy information.

I have type 1 diabetes and a thyroid condition, and have regular testing for both of these. Allowing me online access to my own test results will be of huge benefit to my ongoing management of my own healthcare, and will lessen the pressure on your reception staff. I understand that online access has been available from all GP surgeries in England since April 2016, so I would be grateful if you could set up this access for me.

With thanks in anticipation,

Snapsy xxx

I have had to email my surgery following my last appt with my GP. The only measurement he took at that appt was my weight, yet there's a BP reading recorded on the same date! I wouldn't mind but the reading is too high for me! I have asked for it to be removed!

Wow, that is some error by your doctor. You do have to watch the entries carefully. I can see graphs of all the measurements and markers, and one time my waist line graph fell dramatically. The nurse had measured my waist in inches, which came to 28" and entered this number, not remembering the measurement units were centimeters. So my waist was 28cm which is 11 inches!!!!!

Blimey, that's shocking!

Mind you, my hospital still has me down as 187cm tall! I'm NOT! I mean, I'm tall, but not THAT tall.....
;)

Finally got round to registering for patient access to my records etc all went fine that end and I could see my list of meds for repeat and able to make appointments but not able to see test results or any records but it did say I needed to sign a consent form at my surgery to have records online. I went into the surgery today and told the receptionist and she said she did not know we had to sign a consent form. She looked but couldn't really find anything about how to do it so that I could see my test results etc then one of the nurses tried but no luck she said the problem seemed to be at the surgery end but she would have to ask one of the doctors how to fix it so when it will work properly I don't know. Seems not many patients at my practice could have signed up for patient access so far or they would have been aware of the problem.Without signing up for patient access I still could have made appointments and requested repeat meds on the surgery web site so not much better off now and if we want a print out of test results they charge 20p
Has anyone else had a problem getting patient access

Only 20p??? My surgery just announced £10 per sheet!!! They say they know we have a right to the information, but they have administrative costs. They have just started this. So i would like to find out what i can see online, I did not realise that blood tests results etc were there

You are correct, you can! i think they mean we pay for the time they take to press a key on the computer and take out the bit of paper! I thought this must be wrong, and needed a couple of sheets - i had to ask in an appointment for the results of urine tests, and also one sheet of blood tests, they still wanted me to pay. I thought this ridiculous, and pointed out i needed to write to the urologist with the figures, if i was not able to, then please could they? I got my sheets, but there was not a good atmosphere. It was upsetting, as i like, or liked, to think of the GP surgery as somewhere i could trust, and feel ok about - this has altered things.

Agree completely. I know projects like this have to start somewhere, but someone has not thought this out, as the majority of GP patients who go regularly to the surgery are, i think, older people, and the majority of people without internet access are also older people. Even if they have access, many older people, as well as some disabled people, also have problems looking at computer screens, and some can find using keyboards painful and difficult. On top of this, if some practices, like my own, have just brought in a policy of charging £10 a sheet for printed blood test results , things could become more difficultthan it was before for large numbers of people.
