Petition for David Clapson enquiry

Most of you will have heard about David Clapson, an ex-soldier who died after being sanctioned by the Jobcentre and not taking his insulin because he had no money to buy food. I, myself, was on JSA until recently and have been sanctioned missing appointments when ill and even for missing an appointment which I had requested, to claim travel expenses which I found out would be provided by my training provider and so, didn't go. Fortunately, I was staying with my mom so it wasn't much of a problem but had I been alone or unwilling to ask for help, I'm pretty sure I would have done something illegal to get by. Putting a persons well being, health and life at risk because they have to hit targets on how many people get sanctioned is, well, [insert curse words here]

Yeah, good stuff. That thread is about another subject though, some people may not see that/those posts. The situations people who have next to nothing are being put through because of cuts being made, when there are plenty of people and company's that make more money in 1 year than most people will make in a lifetime just really "grinds my gears" Looks like just over 1000 more signatures to get to 50,000 as of now. The more exposure the better.

It's a terrible state of affairs for it to happen to anyone, never mind an ex-soldier, I can't differentiate. As I mentioned somewhere else, the Royal British Legion do tremendous work with the men who served in her majesty's forces, such a shame that somebody slipped through the net. I have signed the petition.
 

Yep, signed it a while back.
Though I've never been in the same boat JSA or any form of unemployment related benefits.. (I wouldn't actually know where to start with regards to that sort of thing.)
I have however hit "lean times" in the past.. & understand how "priorities" can change financially...

Just posting as an excuse to bump this up really.

As an aside.. For anyone not signed yet? These petitions can actually work...
I signed a petition to save th livelyhood of an established music venue in Bristol City centre from nearby property developers quashing the noise from said establiment. The local planning only passed development application on what was originally a multi story car park, on the "proviso" of adiquate sound proofing to the proposed apartments that's intended to replace the building...
 
Didn't know about the petition just signed it. It makes no odds if he served his country or just worked in an office... he and others need genuine help and it is those people that never get it.
Llive on benefits dont try find work and you get all you need.

this country is so screwed
 

According to the newspaper report the guy left the army & worked for BT.. He then dropped his career to care full time for his sick mother.
Being a carer for a family member in its self can take an emotional toll...! The guy has my admiration just for that..!
 
I know about the mental difficulty Jaylee before we met my other half took 5yrs out to care for his mum who had dementia, he only stopped because he almost had a breakdown and his brother and sister in law (they didn't live close so unable to help much) insisted she had to go into a care home as he couldn't keep going as he was.

He got no emotional help as it seems only women are considered carers...have heard this from 2 other special friends who care for parents. It will take hub a long time if ever to get over everything emotionally.
 
I empathise with your husband MID. My mum was a carer for my dad with dementia for 5 or 6 years.. (He was also T2.)
I live relatively close & had the arrangment with my employer at the time to drop stuff & run should the need for additional support be required..?
Which quite often it did... My job ruled employees couldn't carry phones, but my gaffer overlooked this in my case.. (My dad was prone to falls during the time he was still relatively mobile.)
I would "dadsit" to give my mum a chance to have a break.. Both my parents used to like doing amature dramatics, so I'd' cover to at least give my mum a chance to maintain a "social scene".. My sister, though a fair distance down the M5 with family offered support too..
However since the death of my dad. Apart from getting Shanghaied into family events & trips away, has no interest in much else...

Once a carer, always a carer... I have nothing but the utmost respect!

Am bumping this up.

The petition is gathering momentum and need signing by anyone who can see the injustice for all benefit claimants who are treated in this way.
 
How can there be so few replies to this thread in Diabetes UK Forum, we should be ashamed, this thread need prime billing until diabetics cannot be sanctioned on JSA as it is a severe health risk when people have little or no money or can't get to a food bank. I read the story about this poor man and was so angry and I wanted to cry as some hitler-like Civil Servant had quotas and unflexible regulations (just like Atos and ESA) and didn't understand his circumstances. An utter national disgrace !
 
75,000 signatures have been made! Still another 75,000 needed. Help spread the word.
 
Just another 2500 before the 200,000 mark. Brilliant! 50,000 more after that to hit 250,000 and force an independant enquiry of these draconian benefit sanctions.

I had signed this a while ago and shared on social media for others to sign. We are just over two weeks away from a General Election, please take some time to write to all of the candidates in your constituency about this. Quote from the wording on the change.org page or indeed just copy the text, citing where it came from. Most importantly, ask the candidate a direct question, will they put an end to these sanctions (for everyone with health issues, disability issues and social issues). They serve no good purpose whatsoever.

David Cameron failed to attend his 'interview' to become Prime Minister last Thursday, his benefits should be withheld immediately.
 

There's a lot of this sort of behaviour going on and it seems that the government allow it, probably encourage it and then they go and find a bunch of iueyrtiuyertynb (expletive deleted) to implement it.

It is also my humble opinion that it is normal for companies to take advantage of the tax law, I for example used to get tax relief on my mortgage and my pension payments. The law was changed to prevent my mortgage tax relief and Cameron has promised to make pension tax relief it one of the first things to he'll do when he returns. It's not just the PM or the chancellor that needs reminding about big companies taking advantage of the law, it's the whole of Parliament and probably the Lords as well.

Get your letter writing gear ready, there's a few letters to be written.
