Diet only
I was wondering ... (A dangerous pastime for me ;-))

Is there any way a edition could be started and eventually presented to the government? About treatment/management of diabetes? Any same person reading these forums would surely sit up and take note.

Just an idle thought.

They've been done before, last one was for test strips for type 2's but it failed miserably to get enough support.

There have been various pressure groups on DUK and many of us have sent emails letters etc to try to bring about dietary change. They all fall on deaf ears because those in the 'establishment' are too close to each other and remote from the condition itself. The big pharmas and food industry all have an influence. It's all very sad but at least we have a forum like this to assist those who find it.

Hmmm somebody needs to invent the next big food fad ... Just imagine .. . A string of establishments across the country, nay ... the world!!! What to call it ... CF Coffee House ha ha. Anyone fancy setting up a co-operative ;-).
I went into Cafe Nero today and ordered my coffee. They asked me if I wanted a cookie or similar. I replied that I was unable to eat them but if they started stocking 85% chocolates, then I might spend more. Or what about a greasy spoon cafe? Yum!!!

I won't condemn people that have petitioned on our behalf... Or ever give up...
1) looks like insulin users Will get 10yr driving licences next year;
2) I am Chairperson of a GP PPG and there is a LOT that the public can do at ground roots level..

All garages when you buy petrol nowadays try to sell you chocalres n ****... The poor staff have to ask everybody.. Everything is targetted towards **** nowadays in supermarkets, garages etc.. More chance of targetting these companies than the govt, NICE, MHRA etc

Not sure about this but .......... On the you.gov website I think that there is a facility for creating a petition which will,go straight to government for consideration ( of some sort). Perhaps those wish to put a case together could use this facility ?

No, because it's not the government's job to pass laws regulating diabetes care - the one's I've seen was rejected on those grounds.

If you had the government's ear, what would you ask for? (anyone).

I would ask them to review present practices regarding diet. Send the dieticians/medical staff on DCUK led courses!
I guess I'm new and don't know enough about all the issues. I know it's not as simple as that.
Hi hum ...

I can't remember if it was bbc1 or radio 4. But this morning moneybox man Paul Lewis was discussing a recent practice whereby people were complaining about services on twitter with excellent results. This practice was succeeding where months of emails and letters of complaint had failed. Eg someone on a train, the heating failed so they posted as much on twitter via phone. Heating fixed during journey!! Amazing! Some banks were responding within a few hours of a complaint made via twitter. Nationwide BS response being the best. Some institutions have dedicated staff monitoring constantly.

So ... I wonder if government/health bods watch twitter? I'm not a twitter buff but I see there's a little bird on this screen as I type. Do people from here use it? I set up an account once but couldn't really get my mind around how it works or what all the # business is about. :-(

What happens when the bird is pressed? I've just pressed it and it turned blue. Am I thick? Ha ha don't know what will happen when I press reply.

It said DCUK wanted access to twitter accounts and I pressed ok. Does anyone know what will happen now? Am I broadcasting live on twitter? Oh now I will be a laughing stock !! :-/

All GP's have to have PPG's to get an extra source of income from government.....ours gets another £10k + for having a PPG...

PPG stands for Patient Partcipation Group. My Group meets every two months...

Since Chair of my Practice we have had a survey, increased Patients awareness of the Group and going to attend flu clinics to increase Patients awareness if items such as Online Appts, Online Test results and Patients care plans...plus Carers, diabetes, asthma info...and we do Newsletters where my volunteers hand them out in the Practice and get surveys done too.

Gp's do not have to act upon the survey reports but the CQC do expect them to listen to their Patients and act if it is possible. We also learn things like our CCG giving pumps to all new diagnosed under 12's.. Etc.

However, it is not a Group for individual complaints.... Just a way to bridge communications and improve things at ground root level for all Patients... Have a look at Napp.org.uk website...

Lots of Practices do a lot more than ours...ours was not run well previously..we are just getting going really, but the improvements are excellent with our Practice... Got small things like new chairs, better opening times, more info, I even pass on details of the LCHF from southportgp to our Senior Partner at the Practice...

Sometimes you have to start at ground roots level to make a difference... I will never give up doing something to help people with diabetes in the future. Thats why I also do research at QE2 hosp in Birmingham.

Small things can make big differences...
W
