So we going to get our own CDC it seems. No executive power, and no funding of its own. A true Quango. If Trump can ignore his with impunity, then so can Bojo. Still, moving track and trace back into the community seems sensible. There is probably no money moving with it so cash strapped councils will have to make so and mend as usual. We used to be able to breed proper politicians and statesmen . Must be the water.......

I think a lot of the government's actions are to cause distraction. If there are enough changes happening people can't keep up with everything and don't notice that things are swept under the carpet. Care homes, PPE, Test and Trace, cost of Brexit, etc etc.
When it was Thomas Cromwell rather than Dominic Cummings it was called dissembling.

According to BBC news this morning, it is only the pandemic responsibility that is moving to a new Quango being set up with the test and trace mob. The future of PHE is expected to be finalised later today.

(Reuters) - Britain’s Health Secretary Matt Hancock will announce that Public Health England (PHE) will be scrapped and replaced by a new body specifically designed to protect England against a pandemic by early next month, The Telegraph newspaper reported.

Hancock will announce a merger of the pandemic response work of PHE with NHS test and trace into a new body, called the National Institute for Health Protection, the newspaper said. (bit.ly/3fZLmE6)

Just the Covid stuff for now. They are allowed to carry on their ineffective campaigns on obesity.
I don't think this government should be let off the hook but I do think PHE are ineffectual and this is as good a reason as any to re organise.
