Hi,
I believe that it is only diabetics on insulin who are likely to have problems with the DVLA - and then only if they have hypos that need assistance from other people to get the BG back up.
But of course, you shouldn't be driving while you have vision problems!
Big fluctuations in BG do cause blurry vision. It is to do with the sugar entering the eyeball and altering the refractive index of the fluid. I think. Anyone know better?
I have had it myself, once, when I was given an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, and my BG shot up hugely, and then dropped again. My vision was blurry for about 48 hrs, during which I wasn't safe to drive.
Haven't had it since, even on the very rare occasion that my BG gets higher than 10.
So, in answer to your query:
Your optician is probably right that the vision prob was caused by raised BG.
But it will subside - so long as you keep your BG at lower, more stable levels.
The real question is what had you been eating prior to the blurry eye episode?
And yes, had a great new year and Xmas, thanks!
I had constant blurred vision for months until I got my bloods under control and stayed ok because I didn't go above 6 mmols.
Be careful, when driving!
The optician is right it is high bloods that distort your eyes but also fluctuating up & down never helped.
I have been told by my specialist that because of the hypos. If I wasn't on meds I couldn't drive.
Somebody else will have to answer the insurance and licence as I have never drove. I have problem with perspective.Yeah see I'm going low not high so you take meds and that allows you to drive on - did this have to be declared to your insurance company and did it affect your premium? And do you still get a 10 yr driving license or did they shorten it? Maybe I'm over worrying here but I need it for work can't work otherwise given the nature of my job. It was last thing I thought of for eye test just thought new prescription new glasses be grand but wasn't the case! Sorry for all the questions!

As already said, it's the fluctuating bloods that distort your vision.
Get your bloods under control. Chrimbo is over now and get on track. Once you do, your eyes will clear and driving won't become a problem.
Still be careful tho!
Stay away from carbs and sugar! Yes it is hard but you have to think of your livelihood. Also your future health.
If I can do it so can you.
@cold ethylWell, I warn you that 90% of her book is about a diet for type 2s to re-train their pancreas to be more 'normal' . So the RH info is more of an aside. But I still found it filled a few of the many gaps I have in my understanding of RH

Is there any news on the new forum?
With all the new updated website, I was hoping that you would grant our wish.
Thanks very much!
Hey! I know it's only a fairly small change, and likely not what you were after... but a thread prefix has been added to the Ask a Question forum (since I felt that was the most likely place for threads about RH to crop up) which gives the topic a slightly more targeted and specific audience on the forum.@Giverny, @daisy1 & @Brunneria

@Giverny , I appreciate everything you're doing for us, but, on my iPhone, I can't find the drop down on the Ask A Question forum.
I've looked and searched pressed every button and it's very allusive.
Help?
No problem! I must say, I do agree that the thread prefixes are fairly easy to look over. Will investigate effective ways of making a more visual prompt to use these.I'll have a look. Ta!
Done!@Giverny
I have posted a new thread on the Ask A Question forum, can you sticky and I believe @Brunneria has (hopefully) a reply to post for newbies!
If this ok?
Thanks very much!
Any future improvements we would be so grateful!
