Hi @kaylee8827 Welcome to the forum :)

Before I was diagnosed type 1, I had gestational diabetes which was diagnosed quite late into my pregnancy at 23 weeks and went straight onto insulin, I don't know why they didn't do the blood test earlier as I felt that I hadn't been right for a while. There were alot of emotions going through my head at the time, handling pregnancy, dealing with new knowledge and all the while concern for my baby, apart from being induced at 37 weeks and giving birth to a large baby, everything was fine. I was given a birthing plan fairly early on with the doctors so I knew what to expect. I know it's hard not to feel scared but in some respects you have to just focus on doing the best you can now. Contact your doctor on Monday they should refer you to your local hospital from there you should get support. PM me if you want a chat ;)

First things is to try and relax if you can. I am T2 on insulin and delivered my first baby 17 months ago. I also have other health problems so I was very scared. I didn't find out I was pregnant till week 22 and have lots of medications I take. It ended up being a long 5 months but ended up having my baby daughter. See your doctor as soon as you can. Till then rest when you can and try to eat healthy. I don't know what other meds your on but trust me When I say this is manageable and you can do this.

Thank you. much appreciated x

I agree with himtoo, so take deep breaths and try to keep your mind busy with other things if you can, Monday is nearly upon us. If your own GP isn't available, then see another one and tell them of your concerns, take care x

Hi Kayleigh,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! :)

I'm in the same position as you. I've just found out I'm pregnant and my control hasn't been as good as I would have liked it to be. I'm T1 with insulin injections. Due to my hba1c being 8.0 when I found out I was pregnant, the midwife has put me on a 5.3-7.8 target. It is a very scary time, but I'm hoping as the weeks/months progress, I'll be used to the constant checking etc.

Try not to worry. I've been worrying lots but it doesn't help :)

Congratulations @kaylee8827 Theres no need to be scared - you'll be well looked after :)

Are you taking the special high dose folic acid? If not, speak to your GP about that. Do you have a hospital clinic you attend? If so, the best thing to do is phone them and ask to speak to a DSN. Hospitals run special clinics for diabetic pregnancies and provide the support you need.

If you mean your diabetic team at the hospital, give them a call on Monday. Also call your GP and ask about the folic acid. If you get fobbed off or have a long wait, explain how important it is and ask to speak to a doctor not just a receptionist :)

The folic acid needs to be taken asap as it's important for the development of the baby early on.

Thanks im gonna try but my gp is a nightmare to get an appointment

Hi hugs. I don't know where you are, but in my area the gps will simply tell you to ring your local midwifery service and give you their number to phone directly to book.
If high risk and history of early miscarriage etc then you can phone the epac ward and self refer to be scanned from before the eight week mark where the midwifery services give you your initial booking in appointment. Gps will usually just give general advice. Are you under a specialist at the hospital? Or just your diabetic nurse at your surgery? Please try and get in to see them..,
