possible Type 1/2 Cure?

Perhaps I should change the signature to "Resistance is Futile, Self Determination is Irrelevant, You Must Comply" :)

Well hopefully I can help maintain peace and order!

In the case of type 1 diabetes, it was assumed up until recent years that switching off the autoimmune attack would only be half the battle. The other half would involve either replacing or somehow triggering the regeneration of islets.

Recent research ([1][2]) suggests that the second part of the puzzle may not actually be necessary. Meaning that once the autoimmune attack is stopped, isets will begin to grow back and produce insulin (demonstrated in the study by a rise in c-peptide production). Hopefully these results can be repeated in the future on a more meaningful scale.

However, even though this kind of treatment/cure is at the very least theoretically possible, I remain sceptical about the Sri Lankan 'Biting Mite' approach. But I'm more than happy to let someone else try it first.

I was under the impression that the increase in beta-cell function in those patients was due to the addition of new steam cell material into the pancreas and not because the pancreas had 'healed' itself through natural means post auto-immune attack... I shall have to go do some reading

I looked this fella up on t'internet last night.

It is all indeed rather mysterious but somewhere amongst all the bumph, I saw that it was referring to the Scabies mite.

Hmmm. I don't think I'm biting this one. Or burrowing it..if you see what I mean. Always more than happy to be proved wrong and hopefully someone can do a decent and unbiased set of tests on Mr Riveira.

Just wondered-if I go on holiday this year and get bitten by a mosquito, could that have same effect    :?:

Might be worth booking a holiday abroad

Sorry for the sarcasm but I don't believe any of it. Anyway, I think I'd rather have diabetes than scabies.

This has parallels with some material in the book....

Well that's a bit of a surprise Camilla!

Had you down for your normal all guns blazing approach. "Incoming" on poor old Mae and all that

I really am intrigued why you would consider taking any of this seriously? Care to enlighten us more?

I recommend doing a lot of reading, look at the problem from all angles. I have named the book in which this kind
of theory is discussed, maybe you might like to read it. It is the only way to find out.

Ok I'll look out for it. Despite the science or nothing attitude I tend to put over I am interested in anything that helps me control my condition so long as it has some scientific studies to back up claims.

I have actually ordered some Bitter Melon and Cinnamon (in tablet form of course I do have my standards  ) to see if they have any effect on BG's after finding that Bitter Melon is actually WHO accredited for reducing BG's and two properly controlled scientific studies on Cinnamon exist (one said it works a treat and the other said forget it).

However it will take a lot more to convince me that anything to do with Biting Mites that give me Scabies will cure my diabetes.

Dear Xyzzy

It is really the principle that there may be certain substances or microscopic living things that might change the behaviour of our immune systems that interestes me, not the midges as such.

I think it is well worth trying the bitter melon and cinnamon - perhaps separately for a period of time. We should use as many weapons as we can to bring down our sugar levels. Using natural ways is far better in my view than always medicating the problem. Let us know how you get on, it is interesting to conduct small experiments to see what works or not.

They're all just molecules and atoms to me Camilla no such thing as "natural" in my book

(ducking now)

I mean by using diet and exercise there are no side effects, it is the most natural way to control it. Soon as you begin medicines of any kind side effects are many. That is really all I meant.

Yes I know just winding you up. :)

I like your approach and the advise you give, was just a bit surprised about the mites but everyone is allowed an opinion ... ... so long as I'm allowed one back.

Take care of yourself and keep typing you're doing good deeds imo.

The suggestion that there is a cure for diabetes but nobody wants to know about it does tend to reduce the credibility of this claim.

For decades (centuries) there have been claims about 'miracle' inventions which would save the world but were squashed by big business.

I Gogled for this person but mainly found references to a Cross TV site.

It does sound remarkably like Snake Oil.

Medicines and possible cures for diabetes are being found slowly but surely and a cure for diabetes would make someone an enormous fortune.
Might upset the established drug companies, but these days start ups can do this kind of thing.

So sadly, I am not convinced.

Cheers

I just googled this persons name and along with the same crosstv site I did find this rather interesting piece *, linked to Ediriviera by a comment he/she left there last year similar to the post here. The actual article though is about research done by Scientists at a Toronto medical centre which I dont think Ive heard of before

* http://www.informationaboutdiabetes.com ... es-58.html

As for Ediriviera I would put him/her in the - Looking For Internet Fame category - along with many others.

Interesting.
Doesn't say how the test mice were made T1 in the first place, though.
Essence of chili straight into the pancreas/liver?
Ouch!
