Premixed insulin

With mixed insulin yes I was, but none whatsoever with this basal bolus stuff. What works for the mixed insulin definitely doesn't work for the newer stuff. I had been adjusting the mixed insulin for several years prior which is what is so frustrating.

There in lies the problem, you were never told how to use it.....

Absolutely. I think if I had been shown or told or even given information to read it would have been better. Today at my new hospital there was an abundance of leaflets and guidance in the waiting room area - whereas at my former hospital there was absolutely none. There may come a time when I do switch to it - and they did talk about the DAFNE course. My former hospital never mentioned it to me, nor did I receive any help despite telephoning the nurses several times. I called to double check something today that the doctor said this morning and this hospital called me back. That's something the former hospital never did - despite my leaving messages. I am so glad to be out of the former hospital and think its no doubt a time bomb. They just left me to struggle and I had been a diabetic for a long time - so heaven knows how they treat newly diagnosed but its not acceptable.

So are you back on mixed now or persevering with basal/bolus?

I have been given a new basal bolus regime. I'm going to start that from weekend onwards, but felt a lot better. This clinic seems more in tune with their patients. I still dislike the idea of injecting 4 times a day, and would like to go back to 2 times a day but will see how it goes.
