problems with forgetting

Its Tuesday isn't it, for your appointment?

You need to list a very brief personal background of your life especially for the last 3 months...

Things like

1) a typical day for me is this:
2) because of xxxx I struggle
3) I would like a confirmatiom from you whether I am type 1 or T2, was I tested for GAD, and c-peptide
4) I inderstand that as a diabetic on injections I should have been offered a DAFNE course. I have now been diabetic 5 years and still have not been offered one. I believe this would assist me in managing my diabetes. Please can I have a dafne course?
5) I have been researching pumps... ( got stuck with this..) will think more on this....

Sally are you mainly high levels? Do you get any hypo's, do you recognise your hypo's?

Thank you I have all that wrote down now!! X
My sugars are more high than low but I don't really have hypo's I recognise my low sugars... But not my high..

I only ask because if a pump is a solution to be considered it's normally considered because of hypo's.

Write down what impacts have been in the past 90 days (and 5 years)...
Briefly though, as you want to say it and give consultant time to consider and act..

Write the points so a copy can also be left with the consultant... And that you can read through (in front if consultant) and check that everything has been said....

You are young to think of all these things, so it is best to go in with a clear format of things that need to be discussed..

Sorry I'm getting confused between hypo and hypa haha I do get hypos when my sugars are low..
I get dizzy feel sick and hot..I know when they are low but I'm always high atm but my insulin needs tweaking because I was low this morning ( I took all my insulin yeatersay )

Well done on an all day insulin.... Yaaaaay!!!!! Xxxx

Only known one person to get a pump due to higher levels n dka's, but is a younger lady like you. Normally its due to excessive hypo's.

There are NICE guidines that you would have to fulfil to get a pump.

How have you been today?

Whats the highest levels you are getting to during 24 hours?

It sounds as if you could really need to do a full days testing and recording and making some changes...

Incidentally, do you ever change your insulin doses, have you had any advice on how to change them?

Hi Sally_x. I sympathize wit;h your experience of forgetting. I have noticed this also, esp. in hypos.
I became diabetic in 2009. Keeping the blood sugar stable helps a lot, I find. Take care.

Yeah I'm not sure if I'll get one I just think it's maybe worth asking about hopfully I'll just get a hang of the injections today the highest its been is 19.6 it's currently 13.8
I've been okay today ive missed 1 dinner injection but I wasn't home and forget to take it with me but had all the rest
Normally I get told to change them but they have told me if I'm going low to take 2 units off so I take 22 units of novo in the evening so I'd go down to 20...

Sally
You must ask for a DAFNE course, as this will enable you to get ur levels lower...13-19's are too high and I know you know that...

Have you had lower hba1c's before?
Do uou get your feet and eyes checked?

Thank you so much that's so helpful!

I sympathise, Sally! There was a time for me, too, when I was too busy to take care of my health properly, but, as you say, you can't ignore diabetes, you will have to get on top of the health problems you've got at the moment, and that's what you've set out to do by joining the forum and asking for advice.

As a carer for your Mum, you're handling loads of responsibilities - so, first of all, well done for being such a great support to your family! By joining the forum you've shown that you know the time has come to start looking after yourself much much better - so again, well done, that' s a big step forward. There's nothing stopping you now!

Here are some questions/comments you might want to add to those suggested by @donnellysdogs for when you see your consultant this week:

  1. I'm a young carer with heavy responsibilities at home.
  2. I'm not clear about whether I'm Type 1 or 2 . Please could you make sure I have the tests I need.
  3. I need more support with injections and other medication. Could I have Timesulin and a NovoPen Echo to help me keep track?
  4. I need more help with planning healthy meals.
  5. I need more support with learning how to adjust my doses.
  6. I'm struggling because of anxiety, tiredness and insomnia.
  7. Please check the sores on my leg.
  8. Could you get me onto a Dafne course?
  9. When I've tried to talk to a DSN, I haven't been able to get through and I haven't received a follow-up reply.
  10. Very often I feel unwell, needing to wee a lot, probably my blood sugar is too high.
  11. I want to control my diabetes and I've joined the Diabetes UK forum to ask for help. The people there have given advice and want to know how I got on at my clinic appointment.

If possible, type up your questions and comments, if not, write them clearly so you can read them and so you don't get flustered. Maybe take a pen with you to jot down anything important. You might get given leaflets - look after them so you can read them when you've got time. I'm sure you'll get on well, Sally, and can start making some changes. Let us know how it goes!

Thank you that's helpful I just struggle with being so busy but something needs to change or that's it I'm gonna have no one to care for my mum because I'm to I'll myself or worse.. Hearing my hba1c was 109.. I think that triggerd something to know I've gotta do something I do have so much going on I try not to ignore my health but I think I probably am more than I thought
Thank you for the suggestions pretty much all of them are what I really need to ask apart from my leg I say a dermotoligy specialist at nottigham hospital for them since lincoln hospital dismissed it and told me to cover it with make up.. :-/ but thank you I've wrote down so much I hope the doctor has time for me

Hi I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes since about 2009
At first I was on tablets but my sugars would never come down I was then put on novo mix that didn't do anything I'm now on
Novo rapid 3 x a day
Lantus 2x a day
And victoza 1ce a day
But I'm really stuggling to remember to take them all I care for my disabled mum.. And it's just too much to remember im wondering if anyone has any tips on how to rember and also if a pump may be an option or if I'd even get one my hba1c from this weeks blood test had rocketed to 109....
I'm really worried I have a condition on my leg already due to diabites and have to have steroid patches on it I'm 24 and I really am struggling right now...
Please help
Thank you
Sally x

Hi Sally, I am a carer for my elderly dad, I don't live with in, I live with my daughter. I know of the many struggles caring fior a relative, but there is help out there. Do you or your mum have any other relatives, do you live at home with her. Get in contact with Adult Social Services and find out what help is available fior you both, or see your GP and tell them everything.
You must look after yourself being diabetic, as someone said you are so young to have type 2 and on so much medication as well. How is your leg, and what is the diagnosis for that ?
Sorry if this has been already mentioned and covered by you.

It can be a huge struggle being a carer, my blood sugars have been all over the place in the past because of stress, worry and concern.
Please take care of yourself, you are so young and you need to keep well, both in mind and body.

Best wishes RRB :)

I do have a social worker and family but I'm her main carer I ask for help from family but it's not like they can drop things with their children And my little brother is disabled to so he needs alot of care from others I haven't spoken to my social worker in 8 months.. I can't remember the name of my leg problem (long complicated name) but it's being treated with sterid strips but its basically a large red mark on the calf and it sometimes opens up and ulcers...
