I finally start pumping this morning. A mixture of very excited and nervous, I've read Pumping Insulin and the manual cover to cover so don't feel I can be any more prepared, but it's a big step regardless.

I decided to go with the Roche insight but made my choice before all the problems came out about cannulas etc, so hoping that wasn't a mistake - I'm trying to bear in mind that people tend to post about problems they experience more than when things are going well, but it's still a worry especially as it's not just me it will be affecting - got a baby on board to think about too!

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions once I start getting to grips with things, but wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all for the support and information you've given me so far in making the decisions about pumping. You are all awesome.

hey i've only been on the insight a month now, but if you need any help or advice i'm sure my experiance of being on a second handset and second pump will help haha.

Good luck and you will be fine

I've been on the insight since 7th December and not really had any problems

I'm sure you will be fine, do take along pen and notepad as many find it all a bit overwhelming to start with so tend to forget things. (who wouldn't)

Been on Insight for a few weeks now after 4 yrs on the Combo, not had any issues :-)

Day 3 of pumping and so far all going ok - weirdly being pregnant really helped on switchover day. I had stopped the Lantus the day before and expected to have to do a bit of correcting before we got the pump going, but my honeymoon is now so strong that I woke up at 4.7 with no insulin on board! If only I could stay 14 weeks pregnant indefinitely, I wouldn't need a pump :)

Managed my first cannula change today and so far all seems to be working, and I'm loving not having to do so many injections. Next step: basal tests :)

aha the joys :P of basal tests. i didn't have to do that yet but had to test every 2 hours for 2 days :P

This is where the libre has been invaluable - I've done lots of blood tests too in the last few days but it's wonderful peace of mind to be able to see it all ticking along in the interim. And the pump has already eliminated my nightly hypos which were causing me sleepless nights. Feeling much more refreshed!

The Libre is a great piece of kit for basal rate testing @ArtemisBow, you can more accurately pinpoint when your bg starts to rise and fall and make changes accordingly, it allows you to have a decent nights sleep where as before you'd be waking 2-3 times to test your bg levels :)

@noblehead is totally right. It makes basal testing much easier and incidentally, if you decide to take a pump holiday at any point, you know exactly how to make the basal work due to having seen it previously.

Yep, same here, haven't had a night time hypo since I've been on the pump since last September!! Sleeping much better too! :-)
