Newley diagnosed type 2 I have lost nearly 2 stone on the 5/2 diet does anyone know if I can continue on this diet. My GP doesn't know.

It's a very good diet to improve your BG as well, providing you don't eat a lot of carbs on it.

Hi. There are many diets based on these sort of themes and they are certainly better than nothing but many might say that just following a low-carb/higher-fat diet will achieve the same result and be maintainable in the longer term as it becomes a simple lifestyle change 'forever'.

You may find that low carbing gives you the same if not quicker weight loss. I am shortly going on the Michael Mosely Blood Sugar Diet which is based on the Newcastle Diet. As a vegetarian however I cannot just follow what is written down. My diet tends to be a mixture of different regimes and as long as I stick to within guidelines, it works.

The op is already on the 5/2 diet, so no issue with maintainability,
And fasting does seem to have a better effect for some, so well worth continuing, rather than swapping half way through.

Yes I find the 5/2 diet easy to do and something I can continue, I haven't seen the dietian yet, I suppose I will
Have to wait for their advice. I'm worried about muscle waste. Sometimes I have ketones on my fasting
Days. That's why I'm unsure if it's a good diet now for me. My test levels are around 8.3 in the mornings first thing and 5.3 in the afternoon. I hear diabetes can be reversed, how do you know when you don't need meds
Anymore.
