In answer to a question Patch raised:

I'm certain that invisible moderation would greatly benefit this site. Leaving a "stamp of disproval" on certain posts adds fuel to the fire...

Hi Patch,

I take your point on board. It's not meant to be any kind of judgement as such. I simply wish to italicise any edits I make so that people know where their post has been edited. It seems reasonable.

Edits would be of the form, personal comment, which I hope will not break the flow of a post too much.

I don't need to, or want to know when someones post is edited - only my own. That can be done with PM's.

It's a good point but to PM every single time is asking a bit much of a moderator I think. PMs do take a considerably longer time to compose.

Dear Benedict

I have a question regarding the removal of the name of a person from my post in the thread you decided to lock.

Are we now not allowed to name somebody in the body of a post if we call them an idiot even though they are NOT members of this forum but have a vitriolic Blog elsewhere ?

Have the rules here changed recently ? .

Thanks cugila

I can't see that it would be constructive to do this so no, it won't be permitted.

Thank you for your reply Benedict. It does seem a trifle heavy handed though, don't you think ?

I presume that all those posts where the Royal Family and other people will also be edited for personal comments in future then ? That's wonderful News.

You have my unequivocal support in this matter. What all good fora need a firm hand at the helm.

How do you feel about the language used in the first post on this topic to describe a Type 2 diabetic? Is this acceptable?

I don't think referring to someone as a fat idiot is great for the forum particularly if others feel offended by it.

I don't see that this should be the case. Certain things have to be taken on a case by case basis with the aim of trying to do the best for the forum as a whole.

Thank you for that Benedict.

So, as I understand it the Royal Family and others are fair game but vitriolic low carb bloggers who aren't even Members here are given protection. I must have misunderstood you.

Anyway hope you have a good night.

As far as I know, the Royal Family don't read the diabetes.co.uk forum. It appears that Eddie does and I can't see any good coming from name calling in this way.

Do you hear that Eddie ( I know you are reading this) you are more important than the Queen now. I really don't know what to say and its not often I am lost for words ! :D

Well tbh I think this has all been rather bizzare - I can just imagine eddie and his little helpers all feeling a bit smug.

I mailed you yesterday Benedict - would have liked a reply.

People on this forum are generally very nice but there is more to diabetes than low carb- there are many here who do not and they are just being ignored. I did not read much of the so called dr posters - the few posts I did , he was quite rude I felt , goes with the low carb territory I guess.

There's plenty of room here for low carbers and their views. The trouble seems to arise from some low carbers refusal to appreciate the role of saturated fat. The same old "my cardio.." stuff is trotted out and the riot starts. I am healthier now than I've been for years - low carb - high fat.

If I can get away with saying this without a load of bombast, I'll know things have changed.

The King is dead. Long live Eddie!

The King ? Now which King is that then ? You really are behind the times Patch.

As for.....he who must not be named .........apparently I can think he is an idiot, know he is an idiot but i am not allowed to actually say he is an idiot on here. He is apparently very sensitive about reading what is said about himself although he apparently has no qualms about writing lies and ridiculing others and this forum in his blogs.

In......he who cannot be named words - ya couldn't make this up !

BTW ...... Just having a nap. I do hope you and your friends have a nice day.
You know its so liberating being free of the shackles of being a Monitor, being able to say what I really feel rather than what I am told to say ........ All within forum rules of course.

I fully support Benedict and his team in the onerous task he has undertaken. I wish them all, well......

Admittedly I haven't been here for a while but has there been an announcement about the new moderation set up and whether this mark a change in approach?

If not perhaps that would be a good idea? Are there other moderators too? How does the set up work?

For what it's worth I'm fine with posts being edited as long as it's obvious that they have been edited (so I appreciate the italics and the reasons given) and secondly that there is information about who edited them; so Benedict I think that would be helpful if you put "edited by...". The key thing though is that moderation should not be partisan and not be inconsistent.

I do feel that Benedict's approach does seem to be fitting in with all of those so I'm pleased to see how his contribution moulds the site. I may well post more (probably only in the low-carb bit) for those reasons and because the other site had the plug pulled of course... :?

Hmmm, so are you refusing to appreciate other peoples opinions then Ray?

Whatever you do to control your diabetes is your business. That is your choice. Problems arise when some low carbers/high fat promote their choice as the only way to go. They do not take into account other people's choices or health problems. They also cannot seem to accept that there are people who do it differently and are equally successful. They have tried other ways and it didn't work for them. They then have this blinkered view that those people who do it differently are getting at them and not because they are also expressing their views. There are people who have tried low carb/high fat and it didn't work for them either. It is like red rag to a bull to tell some low carb/high fat individuals that your way works too.
There are plenty of low carbers (who also use high fat) here who are happy to use this forum and don't insist that it is the only way to go.

This forum is for diabetics regardless of the way they gain control.
Now that your own low carb forum is not operating and you cannot sit there and **** this forum and some of it's members off, it is your decision as to whether you want to participate here again.

Hi Ally, I'm sorry I haven't seen this. I've checked my PMs and emails and haven't seen this. Could you re-send it please?

I would definitely like to know why all the mods have changed.
Please could it be explained?

Ray, Al (Dillinger) so refreshing to see you here after all this time away. We have missed your wonderful posts and look forward to renewing our acquaintance again.

I know we will get along famously ........BTW Ray, I won't mention my cardio if you promise not to blather on about saturated fats. Is that OK ?

Peace, love and Pork Scratchings !
