Questions about moderation

Ray - I am sure you are much healthier now that you have removed all the sat fat, trans fats etc from all the rubbish you previously ate.

Healthy eating guidelines do not eliminate foods that contain sat fat like meat , eggs and cheese by the way! I eat carbs but I am not a diabetic and have a cholesterol of 3.6!

It is a amazing the highest cholesterol level I can ever recall was from a pt when I was a student at a leading London hospital - the lady ate 12 eggs and 4 pounds of beef a day , plus a few veggies - her cholesterol was very high - her blood looked like cream!
Would be interesting to eat like that !

Why on earth should you think that? My beef is with the ones who when presented with a link about the harmlessness of saturated fat respond with the usual stuff and then say "I haven't read the article"!

You have your views, I have mine.

The danger comes when opinions are stated as facts without back up. I have heard people say eggs are dangerous although it's well documented they're not. They heard it somewhere and continue to parrot out duff information without getting up to date with facts. I don't wish to discuss egg safety, this is an example of misinformation.

I did not eat such stuff, apart from the odd occasion. I did not take sugar, ate wholegrain and kept low fat. I hit a blood pressure crisis of 230/126.

I was told to eat the diet I was on, but increase the wholegrain, brown rice, oats etc. I went from 14st to 17st8lbs and wound up type 2.

I now eat tons of meat, usually the cheaper cuts that seem to have the most fat, lots of other fat (butter, unrefined coconut oil, cream etc). Of course I also eat tons of green veg. No sweet fruit at all, just berries. I hope to reach my old weight this year and expect an A1c of 5 or below this year. It was 5.5 last time. Cholesterol 4.3. Blood pressure varies around 128/ 79 which I'm told is pretty good for a 69 year old.

I will largely be moderating in the mean time.

We also have josie38 who joined as moderator of the 'type 1' and 'insulin pump' sub-forums. josie38 was appointed prior to any knowledge I had of the issue which has brought about the change from cugila and sugarless sue as moderators.

josie38 will continue to moderate her parts of these forums and assist on other sub-forums too.

We will recruit new moderators, likely in a week's time.
 


do you think there will a que of people wanting to take on a position of moderator, selflessly giving up endless hours of their time to help members of the forum unpaid, to be then sacked.
I have an idea maybe Eddie might like the job.
 
Shame of all on these particular postings, we are all meant to be grown ups. If this was an actual Company (as such and not a forum) and people had acted like people have on all these forums here, it would have involved all sorts of tribunals etc.

I am ashamed of what has been allowed to heppen here. The only winners are the other forums...
 
Unbelivable, just unbelivable.....I could think of a few other words to describe what's going on in this forum at the moment but I'd be the first one to be banned by the new Mods/Admin.


A man and his sock-puppets caused terror and many, many arguments and almost brought the forum to it's knees. Although he was banned a couple of years ago, he still manages to bring this forum into turmoil and turn members against each other.

Why can't you all forget about this sad man and just get on with helping each other? I just can't understand why he has such an influence that he can still distrupt the good intentions of this forum?
 
All it took was for the (then) mod team to ignore the taunts - but they rose to the bait, and brought the squabbling here.

Heres's hoping the new moderation style benefits us all.

So this man deliberately threw out the bait in the hope that the (then) Mods would grab it, retaliate and disrupt this forum?

Does that include Eddie? What do you think, should the new Mod/Admin team allow Eddie to return and carry on from where he left off?

The Moderation might have been somewhat heavy handed at times but all in all this forum has been doing great since Eddie was banned and it (the forum) allowed and accommodated for all diabetics regardless of Type/Gender/Disability or the type of diet regime they chose to follow. What it did however not allow is/was for people to deliberately disrupt the help/advice members were giving each other.

I find it despicable and very childish when [some] people think they know everything there is to know about diabetes and try to force others to follow a diet they are not happy with or willing to try. None of us are medically trained and none of us know each other personally, let alone know our medical history, so how anyone can tell me (or anyone else) what's best for me is beyond my understanding of "good advice". Only my Professional Medical Team and I know what's best for me, not some [faceless] know-it-all who don't know me from Adam.

I just hope that this forum does not return to the old days where people were afraid to ask questions and were bullied to the point where they had had enough and just disappeared.
 
As a fairly new member I wouldn't presume to commen about matters of which I know nothing but would just like to express my admiration of ANYONE who is prepared to take on the task of moderating a forum of this type.
It is an absolute minefield. There is no such thing as a completely independent forum anywhere .
Moderators have to walk a tightrope . Especially where hey are dealing with health matters.
This forum has helped me enormously and there must be thousands of others who feel the same
many who never post.
People come here often in desperation when the the advice they are getting from their HCP's etc doesn't work for them and hey find that other fora just repeat the "party line". Here,t hey find practical advice from the real experts- other diabetics. I should think the good it does is incalculable.
I would like to thank everyone here for their help and advice . I have nothing but admiration for those who have given up so much of their time to keep this forum open for people like myself .
I hope it will continue to cater for all shades of opinion on all matters in the future.

Good post, Unbeliever - I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I would just like everyone to be polite to each other and not try to shout each other down. No-one has to be insulting to get their point over. Many of us are in our sixth and seventh decades if not older, and really ought to know better! Okay, we might have differences of opinion, but there is no 'one-size-fits-all' in diabetes, so let's have a little courtesy - please?

Spot on Viv, I think you know that I don't follow the same lifestyle as you do, but I always read your posts and always learn something from them. I respect your views even when I dont agree with them 100%. Its a shame we can't all agree to differ occasionally as you and I do but still get along. There will always be common ground amongst diabetics, seems a shame we cant all fight the common enemy of high bg levels and complications without arguing about what amounts to pretty trivial stuff in the scheme of things.
 
Same goes for me, Sid - I always read your posts with interest, and always learn something from them. If I want to be rude to you I can always send you a PM and do it privately ! :wink: :lol:

I always read your posts too, Patch, and I really appreciate your subtle sense of humour. We really need 'sarcastic' and 'ironic' smileys for you to tag on - but I'm being serious here.

I will always urge anyone to try my 'lifestyle', and help them all I can, but I know that Atkins doesn't work for everyone in weight-loss never mind diabetes! Some people seem to need more carbs than I do.

I have a sneaking suspicion (and no scientific background to go with it) that we are eventually going to discover that, with Type 2 at least, we are merely treating the symptoms of a variety of different causes. If that is the case, it really will be 'treat the individual', not one-size-fits-all, so there is no point being rude to each other about anything.

Ad tartarum ad plaustrum as I said somewhere before. It's a bad Latin translation for 'to hell in a handcart' - and I think we should all be free to do that in our own way.

I love this forum, and I really need it. A couple of weeks ago I thought I was going to have to stay away for ever. Let's thank the previous moderators for all their hard work, give the new moderators a chance, and all be very grown up for a while! :lol:

I have more than a sneaking suspicion that this is well known already but the task of identifying and trreating
the different causes is too overpowering and too expensive. It will be a gradual and long-drawn ou process. All of which makes it more unfair that individuals are blamed for not responding as expected o treaments and being unable to meet imposed targets. This place is an oasis for lost and confused diabetics whatever he type. Long may it continue.
