Does anyone know if drinking alcohol e.g. stout over the course of an evening raises blood glucose levels. And does it aggravate the disease because of the affect alcohol has on the pancreas?
Well, not all alcohol contains carbs, vodka for instance. Anyway, as for beer, I ignore carb content as initial rise is offset by a later drop due to alcohol. Test before, during and after. Make sure you test prior to sleeping and have a carby snack if required to ensure you don't go hypo during the night ( if on insulin ).

I often wondered about that. It's kinda confusing. So basically the alcohol itself cancels out the carbs so it's ok to drink then? or?Well, not all alcohol contains carbs, vodka for instance. I should switch to the vin rouge then!Through testing, I have found that 1 pint if beer (lite ale, lager or guiness) at meal times reduces my BG levels, but 1 1/2 pints increases it. Red wine has little effect on my BG levels, whether a single glass or a bottle.... A bottle over a few hours might even slightly reduce my BG levels.
