I like to eat peanut butter for snacks due to the high protein. I have been using it on Rivita lately as I am off the bread now totally,,is this ok? I noticed on the back of the pack we currently have that is has about 6 or 7g of carbs per slice but says only 0.3g sugars. I have always thought of Rivita as one of those healthy diet snacks for those trying to lose weight. so is this stuff good bad or what? ,,must be better than bread tho.

I will check out the various flavors next time im in the supermarket but was wondering if anyone else has other ideas of what I could use. The only other thing I have used is spreading it on a banana before going to the gym. I know some say Bananas are high in sugar but I only have them as a quick pre workout fix and figure I must burn it off during my gym session.

Any ideas welcome :)

Fill celery sticks with it.

I love the fruit Ryvita.
If you look at carbs per 100 g I think it's 70% carb but ... I eat them with no problem.

Cracked black pepper with Peanut butter right now :) ,,, yeh celery I guess ,, not a big fan tho was hoping for a savory alternative and is a wee bit more filling but might get some for another wee change ,,cheers

also was going to try smoked salmon and cottage cheese on em,,,be a bit cramped on a celery stick tho lol

Cheese and peanut butter go together well.

In this great weather look up recipes for "Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream (Low Carb and Gluten Free) or similar.
My son treats me to his " homemade cashew nut ice cream which he includes peanut butter" its really nice. His ice cream is ok for vegans as he churns the nuts to make the cream effect.:)

I mainly use celery for peanut butter and sometimes cheeses, but I also eat these Finn Slims (but only occasionally) as they are still a bit spikey for me.

I have peanut butter with raspberries when I want a sweet snack, never effects my bg much, some people thing I'm strange for having the 2 together but I love it :-) x

PB with rice crackers, carrots, broccoli, or tofu

Quick fix .. dice up veggies n tofu measure PB with a little extra oil warm on stove till it becomes liquid pour over tofu n veggies and mix together n serve (can microwave if u like).

I just made a potato crisp sort of thing in my sandwich press that would be good with peanut butter. It snaps (has crunch) like a potato chip and would be good with a dip.

I can't figure out the carbs tho but they are thin so there is not much volume in them, especially in snack quantities.

I used 1/2 SR flour and 1/2 coconut flour and grated cheese and water. ( made a wettish mix and cooked with the lid down in my sandwich press) I used spray cooking oil to stop the mix sticking to the hot plates.

I will make some more and test after sundowners with dips.

I slice apples into wedges or discs and spread those with PB and a bit of dessicated coconut.

I live in Australia & am finding it difficult to find anything on the shelves
In the supermarket that is low in sugar/ fat/salt.
It has been a real eye opener seeing how much sugar & salt is in our
packaged foods, I spend so much time in the supermarket looking at all the
so called nutrition information! It seems the safest bet is to eat only whole fresh foods
& stay away as much as possible from pre packaged, tinned etc foods, if u can call it food
that is!
I have discovered a product called cruskets, some are made from wheat & some from rice
Less than 60 calories per serve, less than 1g fat, no artificial colours or flavours, lightly
puffed & toasted, o.1g of sugar per serving, low in salt & they are delicious with peanut butter,
either eaten singularly or like a sandwhich. Crispy toasted texture & I sometimes slice tomatoes
on top of the peanut butter & a little cracked pepper ( no salt) very tasty!
After waiting the two hours to test my blood, it had only gone up 1 point so I figured thats one thing
I've found I can eat without fear of raising my sugar levels too much!
It's good to find something to replace chocolate, which I cannot eat any more :(

Hello @gailbech I am from Brisbane there is a new member info that someone will post.

You are right about what you can eat from our supermarkets, I walk up the S. aisles and see poison to the left and poison to the right, But it is not all poison and we just have to sort it out ENTHUSIASTICALLY and therefore it becomes interesting.

The two keys to enthusiasm for our new foody lifestyle are
a) Cunning and guile - as we discover new ways of cooking and recipes
b) Gourmet attitude to food - to make our food attractive and interesting

My wife and my adult son (here for a while) and I have adopted the above and as my son says we are eating quality restaurant food and we have never eaten more cakes then we do now and we have all lost weight and my BS is now under control without insulin. No one is counting calories or carbs so you can't get better than that.

I think I am going through sugar withdrawal at the moment but after reading all the scary stuff online
& an educational talk from the doctor I am determined to just get through it one day at a time!
I'm beginning to realize this diabetes thing is a very scary disorder of the body & it's not just food
that can spike your sugar levels, exercise & stress can do it as well, I'm finding it all a bit overwhelming!!!
I have had to keep a record of blood readings for past 3 days & they apparently very high so now I'm
attempting to get get the readings lower. I was checking the levels before & after food & my fingers are so sore
after testing, I was thinking of cutting down on the testing so is it better to test after food or before?

Hello Forge, sounds like you have it all under control, I'm pretty new at this. I find it all very confusing, on one hand
they say low fat everything & on the other hand they say when our food has a lot of fat removed it becomes
bland & tasteless so the food manufacturers put more sugar in our food to make it taste better so it's better to
have full fat everything but smaller portions etc they say the sugar is the thing to watch, causes a lot of health problems!!

Best to test before and after you can know your control without knowing both numbers n how things r effective or not for managing thing.
