Evening all,
My sugars are raging at anything between 18- 28 and HI on meter..I have had a total change of insulin around 6 weeks ago to humilinS and Lantus...24 units x 3 humilinS and Lantus 68 before bed...and still getting these reading throughout the day...only on minimal food and one carb at mealtimes I don't feel hungry full up all the time, a extreme thirsty and nothing quenches it, most horrible, peeing all the time, headaches, and tonight at 24.8 my eyes are shaky and got lines in front of them black lines..I have spoken to my diabetic nurse a few days ago she said keep monitoring and will see you in July ? I do see my consultant in May...do you all think this is too long to wait with sugars this high ? And what do I do to get them lower and what can I do to make myself better from these horrible side effects...I do have other medical problems too...really at a loss...many thanks.

Way too ong to wait. Phone Consultants secretary and ask for an urgent referral. Or go to the clinic if you are willing to sit and wait!!

The DSN does she work for the Consultant or is this at your GP?

You need to do this today.

Also, you need to check for ketones as I suspect you are very close to full blown DKA.

Please tell the Consultant Secretary what is happening... And be prepared to go to hospital today...

Do you adjust your own doses or only under a consultant/dsn advice?

And even before you get to see someone you need to increase your insulin by a few units as well immediately. These are very high readings and will only come down with more insulin. You are a long way from risking a hypo so just do it.

Your diabetic nurse sounds like an absolute cretin Totally unforgivable to leave you with high blood sugars and a wait and see policy. Pure neglegence

I've been hospitalised with ketoacidosis and it was grim, really really awful.

Ring the nurse back and tell her, if she doesn't take action call your gp.........last resort go down to A+E and get them to see to you

Hi. Can you let us know your weight to put insulin resistance if any into context. Yes, do see the consultant urgently. There are forms of diabetes such as brittle diabetes and others that can sometimes explain the unexplainable. Good luck.

Crikey Sally Jane hope you've been seen by someone today and are getting sorted! Take care xx
